Biarritz is situated at the foot of the Pyrenees Mountains in the heart of the Basque region, which extends into Spain. A region of strong traditions and rich culture that has preserved a certain quality of life in one of the most beautiful regions of France. The school is located in a very pretty area of Biarritz, 5-10 min. walking distance from the sea front, beaches and town center.
Biarritz's prestige and elegance dates back to the beginning of the century and is still famed today for its beaches, luxurious hotels, casinos and golf courses. A fun and very lively town for teenagers in summertime, there is always something going on: bands playing, jugglers, painters in the old port, street theaters, skate boarders, surfers showing off their talent.
We have different levels, from beginners to advanced. We admit only 6-12 students per class. Minimum of 2 weeks course can start on any Monday. On the 1st Monday of the course you will be assessed on your written and oral level in French.
Our program in Biarritz consists of 15 lessons of General French tuition per week in the mornings. Lessons are on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, (Wednesday full day excursion).
The lessons are a good balance between conversation, grammar, reading, listening and writing. Although this is an academic program, the emphasis is very much on the pleasure and benefits of learning a language. You return home positively motivated and eager to continue your improvements, thus making the following academic year a more successful one.
Our school also offers an A Level French course in summer in Biarritz for British students. This specifically devised course helps prepare the British students to sit the public examination. Above all we seek to improve students' spoken French and help them gain confidence in preparation of their exam! This program consists of 22 lessons per week and some leisure activities. A great deal of emphasis is placed on oral participation through personal presentations and role-playing. Prices for 2005: 1 week – 280 euro, 2 weeks – 510 euro.
* Host family accommodation in Biarritz:
Generally, there are 2 or 3 students of different nationalities per family, except during the summer period when this cannot be guaranteed. On the 1st Monday of the course a member of the host family will accompany you to the school. Biarritz is very friendly, safe town and easy to get about by foot, bike or bus.
Don't forget the host family will do their very best to make you feel at home so consequently don't hesitate to ask them if you need any assistance. If you have any specific medical treatment or particular allergies, please let us know before you arrive so that we can advise your family.
The host family provides all meals. At lunch time you will eat a packed lunch with the other students and your teachers. On Wednesday everyone joins in a picnic during the excursion.
Faculty Information:
All our teachers are of French nationality with French as their mother tongue, many of them have lived and taught French abroad and speak several languages, therefore relating easily to different cultures. Together with their enthusiasm and spontaneity, they guarantee lively and effective lessons!
Other Activities:
- Sport activities: Surfing (once a week), horse riding, golfing, rafting, adventure assault course, beachball, mountain bike riding, Pelote Basque, hiking, sea canoeing, swimming in a sea water swimming pool, etc. You will also get unlimited opportunities to spend time at the beach.
- Excursions and cultural activities: Visit of the Musée de la Mer (sea museum), trekking in canyons, mountain bike riding in the Pyrenees, guided tour of Bayonne and its modern art museum and cathedral, visit of the Basque museum, rafting in the Pays Basque region, guided tour of Biarritz‚ chocolate museum and its workshop, guided tour of Basque villages such as: St Jean de Luz, St Jean-Pied-de-Port, visit to Lourdes, etc.
The sports and cultural activities can vary from one week to the next.
