We are a private language school and teacher training center with European and Asian Teacher Training Center locations. One, our school - Czech Republic, is based in the Moravian capital of Brno in the Czech Republic. Our Asian schools have locations in Hong Kong, Suzhou and the coastal city of Yingkou-Bayuquan.
Our Diploma Course is a 148-hour, intensive four and a half-week teacher training program held in the Czech Republic, Hong Kong and the cities of Su Zhou, Jiangsu Province, and Bayuquan-Dalian, Liaoning Province China. In the Suzhou location, our school gives you a great southern China location near Shanghai in which to kick off your teaching career. In Bayuquan-Dalian, one can experience the culture, cuisine and relaxed lifestyle of the northern part of China. Both locations provide comprehensive job placement and a job guarantee at top teaching posts in the country.
Our school is specialized in teaching English as a foreign language to children, students and businesses, and has earned a high reputation as a provider of quality language instruction, in addition to T.E.F.L. teacher training.
In addition to providing an internationally-recognized qualification, the school has excellent references from schools which have hired its graduates and partner language schools. Our Training Center is also a member of I.A.T.E.F.L. - the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language, T.E.S.O.L. - Teachers of English as a Second Language, and the T.E.F.L. board. Our International TEFL Diploma program meets the British Council requirements for recognized TEFL programs, and also the Australian NEAS standard for EFL teachers. Our school is also affiliated with the Suzhou government Bureau of Foreign Experts and State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA). As these are the Chinese government agencies responsible for all working visas and hiring of English teachers in the greater Suzhou area, this connection allows our program graduates a great amount of flexibility and security in the China job market.
The International T.E.F.L. Diploma program itself is a comprehensive qualification that is well-respected worldwide. The course includes online and on-site components, with both full-time four and a half-week and part-time nine-week options available. The curriculum covers everything you'll need to get started in the classroom:
- Effective T.E.F.L. class planning with time-saving tips for creating fun and effective lessons
- E.S.L. Level assessment, and placement testing of new students
- Grammar; how, when and why to teach it
- Activities for the EFL classroom,
- Role plays and games to increase fluency
- Audio-visuals, multi-media in the classroom
- E.F.L. testing, and international exams (ToEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, etc.)
- C.A.L.L. - computer assisted language learning
- The international EFL job market; what you need to know, plus an introduction to some of the most popular standard T.E.S.O.L. textbooks used around the world, as well as some of the Chinese standards.
The course includes 10-12 class hours of hands-on classroom experience in practice teaching presentations and another 8-10 class hours of observed lessons teaching Chinese adults, children, and Business English. Our graduates find the right teaching job in the country of their choice easily!
Faculty Information:
The certificate program is taught by a team of qualified teacher trainers, each with many years of hands-on experience teaching English as a foreign language, as well as university qualifications, and teacher training experience. Each teacher trainer at our school has also successfully completed the I.E.T.T.C. TEFL trainer certification and/or the comprehensive in-house train-the-trainer program held at the school. There are also occasional guest speakers who visit to lead units in their areas of specialization. Not only do the instructors and the guest speakers teach the courses; but each trainee is also given the opportunity to meet with them on an individual basis to discuss class planning, progress, issues, or other concerns during the regularly scheduled AT (available trainer) time each day.
In addition to TEFL Trainers, our school also has an experienced and qualified team of Chinese language instructors who teach the China-TEFL program, and also individualized language classes for trainees who would like to learn more Mandarin during their time at the Boland School.
Other Activities:
Su Zhou offers a wealth of things for tourists to see and do, and a well-organized infrastructure that makes it easy to get around and explore. Traditional Chinese temples, music, architecture, museums, peaceful gardens, canal tours, and old-style teahouses; Su Zhou has it all. There is additionally a wide range of Chinese and international restaurants, shopping and nightlife possibilities. The city of Su Zhou is also famous as a traditional silk producer, and tours through silk factories and museums are readily available.
There's a lot to do and see in the areas around Suzhou-Shanghai, and Yingkou-Bayuquan. Spending over a month in the region gives our trainees the possibility to travel and go on excursions and field trips on weekends. There are two 'official' field trips included in the course program, at no extra charge to the trainees. The whole group coordinates with our field trip organizer and guide, to choose the destination, and then those who are interested join the group on weekend excursions to some of the main tourist attractions in the area. The guide is provided free of charge, but as field trip costs can vary greatly depending upon the destination chosen, each trainee is expected to cover their own travel, accommodation and food costs on each excursion. See the field trip section under Suzhou Area and Yingkou Area for a list of some of the group favorites. At our Suzhou location, one Saturday each month is Culture Day.
On Culture day, we invite local artists and craftsmen to visit the school and introduce their work. Some of the topics showcased on Culture Day are Chinese reed weaving, traditional Chinese paper cutting, and an introduction to unusual regional fruits, and how to buy and eat them. There is also a presentation of Chinese tea with tasting and comparison of various types, and an introduction to Chinese money, and how to spot counterfeits by a Bank of China representative. Admission to Culture Day is free of charge to our trainees, and attendance is optional.
Facility Information:
Our school Suzhou TEFL Training Center facilities, accommodations, and classrooms are located directly in the city, just ten minutes from the old town. The school offers two types of course accommodations to its trainees. The apartment accommodations are situated in a guarded residential complex near the school with fitness centers, tennis courts, a swimming pool, and ping pong facilities nearby.
The school also offers single and double-room accommodations with private bath directly in the city center, within walking distance of all the major sights. The school itself is located near the city center, with restaurants, parks and shopping all accessible on foot.
The Yingkou-Bayuquan TEFL Training Center is in a modern building in the city center. It is just a short walk from the trainees' accommodations, and a ten-minute cab ride from the beach. The trainees at both locations spend weekdays at the TEFL Training Center, where they have teaching resources, classrooms, and free of charge internet access. The daily observed teaching practice is done with adults and children both on-site, and at nearby local schools.
