The Center was established and has been operating in Larissa - Central Greece - since 1970. Up to 1982 it specialized in the teaching of English, French, German, Italian and Portuguese to Greek students. The Modern Greek Language program for non-native speakers was started in 1993. Since then the Center has also been offering Special Holiday Programs lasting for 1, 2 and 3 weeks during the summer months. These programs are held by the sea at the foot of Mount Olympus, a splendid combination of holidays and studies under the Greek sun.
Our Language Center co-ordinates programs for foreign students with emphasis on Modern Greek Studies. These programs are held in co-operation with foreign universities who wish to send groups of students for intensive courses of 2 or 3 weeks. These courses are usually held between May and September each year.
Dates are arranged with the interested Universities and/or schools and levels will be defined by us in co-operation with the interested Universities and schools or by placement test which will be held on the first day of arrival. Prices are available on demand and depend on the time of year and the requirements of each interested institution.
The center offers modern Greek courses at five levels of competency. Courses are offered throughout the year (October to May) in both regular and intensive schedules. Each course covers approximately 80 hours of instruction over a eight or fourteen week period, with lessons being held three or five times a week.
Lessons emphasize on spoken Greek but also include instructions on reading and writing. In addition, the programs include tutoring in Greek traditional dances, evenings with Greek food and wine, musical events and other activities, in which all students participate.
There are no requirements as to the minimum number of students in each class, however, class size is kept small so that students have ample opportunity to receive help from the instructor, thus maximizing their opportunities for interaction and learning. Lessons are held on all days scheduled (Monday to Friday) except on public holidays and Christmas and Easter school holidays.
