We want you to make the most of your time at Limnisa and hope to offer you all its back up facilities to make your stay a special and unforgettable one.
An aim of the art course is to broaden your range of expression and depth of perception. We will be working in a small group, responding to the special surroundings of the islands and sea and unique volcanic landscape.
The course lasts one week.
Faculty Information:
Felix Zakar is our tutor. He is a freelance exhibiting artist/illustrator. He lectures at Winchestor School of Art. A specialist in printmaking, sculpture, text/calligraphy, he produces his own ‘artist’s books’, his latest based on Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. He holds a Master’s degree from the Royal College of Art.
Each morning we start with a short talk or practical demonstration followed by warm up exercises before moving onto the day's assignment. This might involve a group visit to a place of visual interest or individual field work on an agreed theme with results to be developed on return.
At 1.30 drinks and a buffet lunch will be available on the terrace.
In the afternoons you can continue with your work or relax. The tutor will be available for individual sessions on alternate days.
Drinks on the terrace at 7.30 to sit and watch the sunset. At 8.30 dinner outside - a delicious cooked meal with several courses, with an emphasis on Greek food but other influences too.
The evenings will include time for group discussions and the possibility of sharing your work and experiences of the day with fellow guests in a relaxed atmosphere.
Other Activities:
Artists are welcome at any stage or level. You will be encouraged to experiment with various media, to sketch and gather found objects on field trips to use as inspiration for later work back at the centre. You will be able to experiment with collage and montage, print-making without a press, image with text and graphic manipulation or else pursue your own favourite media such as oils or watercolors.
Facility Information:
Limnisa Centre is on a little headland 20 metres from the beach. You can literally live with your feet in the water. A perfect place for snorkelling to look at the colourful fish and volcanic rock formations. We have snorkelling equipment and wetsuits and even two wind-surfing boards which guests are welcome to try.
Courses take place on the roof terrace. From here you can see the Saronic Gulf spread out all around; with five Islands including Aegina and Angistri, and the mountains of the Eastern Peloponnese with Epidavros nestling in their foothills.
The garden is dotted with tamarisk trees, orange trees, pines and shrubs, with only an old stone wall to separate it from the beach. Then it follows the line of the cliff, with rosemary, cistus and broom. A path leads to the next bay. There are plenty of sunny and shady places to sit on your own and reflect, keep writing or read a book; you can go to sleep in a hammock or enjoy good talks with others on one of the three paved terraces.
Limnisa is a secluded spot, but only 15 minute walk from Ag. Georgios - a little village with two tavernas and a harbour with fishing boats.
A walk of 30 minutes along the picturesque road in the other direction takes you to Ag.Nikolaos, another small coastal village with tavernas on the sea front, and also a hot sulphur bath described by Pausanius nearly two thousand years ago.
Or you can take a walk up the old mule paths above the centre, through a landscape of stone terraced slopes and old olive groves with views back down to the sea and out across to the islands.
Guests will have the choice to either stay in one of the three Comfortable Apartments near Agios Georgios, a fifteen minute stroll from Limnisa Centre, or stay in one of the seaside cabins at Limnisa Centre.
The Apartments are in a small building, situated a 3 minutes walk from the beach and from the small harbour of Ag.Georgios.
They have two airconditioned bedrooms each. One with seaview and one with mountainview. The guests share one lounge/kitchen and bathroom. All 3 apartments have a washingmachine, a hifi, a television and airconditioning in the bedrooms. The spacious balcony/patio overlooks Agios Georgios Harbour, the Aegean Sea, Aegina and Angistri.
There are two Seaside Cabins available at Limnisa Centre. Each sleeping either one or two people. Guests will have their own bathroom and kitchen facilities at the Limnisa house.
