The special attraction of this uncommon tour lies in the chosen time of travel of the year: Winter in one of the most northern parts of America! Join us and we will cross frozen rivers and the ice road all the way to Tuktoyaktuk. Experience the fascinating winter and we will visit the people of the north who live in this extreme climate all year round.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival Whitehorse
Arrival in Whitehorse, meeting of group members and the driver guide. Transfer to Marsh Lake. Overnight "Inn on the Lake"/Marsh Lake.
Day 2: Whitehorse / Tour Preparation
After breakfast visit Whitehorse. Afternoon group meeting and trip preparation (including explanation of emergency equipment). Overnight "Inn on the Lake" / Marsh Lake.
Day 3: Marsh Lake - Mayo
The tour starts via Alaska Highway, Klondike Highway and Silver Trail to Mayo. Overnight "Bedrock Motel" / Mayo.
Day 4: Mayo - Dawson City
After visiting Keno City back on the Klondike Highway towards Dawson City. Overnight "Aurora Inn" / Dawson.
Day 5: Dawson City
Visit historic Dawson City. Midnight Dome, gold fields and Dredge 4, Yukon River and Top of the World Highway. Snowmachine Tour. Overnight "Aurora Inn" / Dawson.
Day 6: Dawson City - Eagle Plains
Start of the "adventure" Dempster Highway in winter. We are passing the Tombstone Valley and will see the Ogilvie - and Mackenzie Mountains. Overnight "Eagle Plains Hotel"/Eagle Plains.
Day 7: Eagle Plains - Inuvik
Further north on the Dempster! We pass the Arctic Circle and reach Richardson Mountains and the Continental Divide. Here we reach a different time-zone as well. On our way we cross two icebridges. Sightseeing in Inuvik. Overnight "Mackenzie Hotel"/Inuvik.
Day 8: Inuvik - Tuktoyaktuk
One of the next highlights of the trip: We leave early morning and go over the iceroad all the way up to Tuktoyaktuk. Overall more than 180 km on frozen polar ice! Overnight "Hotel Tuk Inn" / Tuktoyaktuk.
Day 9: Tuktoyaktuk - Inuvik
Back to Inuvik. You will have the opportunity (optional) for a visit of Aklavik. This option is highly recommended if the weather is good. In addition we will visit some local artists in Inuvik. Overnight "Mackenzie Hotel" / Inuvik.
Day 10: Inuvik - Eagle Plains
Back on the Dempster again. Today we will stop at the small communities "Tsiigehtchic" and "Fort McPherson" before we reach Eagle Plains. Overnight "Eagle Plains Hotel" / Eagle Plains.
Day 11: Eagle Plains - Klondike River
Late afternoon we leave the Dempster and reach the Klondike Highway. Overnight "Klondike River Lodge".
Day 12: Klondike River - Marsh Lake
On the return you will see the frozen mighty Yukon River several times and we will stop at the famous Five Finger Rapids. Overnight "Inn on the Lake" / Marsh Lake.
Day 13: Whitehorse.
The last day of your trip is reserved for some optional activities in and around the capital of the Yukon Territory. What about an exciting trip with one of the local dogmushers (optional)? Or just relax in town after this great journey. There is plenty of time for some shopping before leaving for Europe. Overnight "High Country Inn"/Whithorse.
Day 14: Departure - Transfer to Whitehorse Airport or connecting individual program.
