Xingjian “the New Frontier” is the most western Chinese province, also the largest. During the Tang Dynasty it played an important role in the traffic between China and Europe the so called Silk Road. On which not only goods but also ideas and religions traveled like Buddhism and Islam. Many remnants of this period can still be seen. But the Silk Road is not dead, today’s “Polyester Road” is still very active and can best be seen here. Xingjian is partially covered by the Taklamakan Desert, part of the Gobi and most its cities are actually oasis. It shares the second largest mountain in the world K2 with Pakistan, the Tien Shan Mountains with Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan and the Altai with Russia and Mongolia. It is home to many different nationalities and cultures. Almaty is the ideal gateway to this part of China.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Fri. Drive from Almaty via Horgos to Yili Yili Hotel.
Day 2: Sat. Drive to Bayinbuluk in the ‘Grassland’ Reception House 360 km.
Day 3: Sun. Drive to Swan Lake and continue to Kuqa. City tour. Visit Grand Mosque. Dinner at open-air food stalls. Then we go to the Kuqa Hotel 525 km.
Day 4: Mon. Visit Kizil and Kumtara Thousand Buddha Caves. Bazaar, Subashi ruins. Then back to the Kuqa Hotel.
Day 5: Tue. Drive through the Taklamakan Desert to Minfeng Reception House 628 km.
Day 6: Wed. Drive to Hotan. Visit Rawaq, a former Buddhist temple Friendship Hotel 310 km.
Day 7: Thu. Sightseeing Friendship Hotel.
Day 8: Fri. Drive to Kashgar Qiniwak Hotel 530 km.
Day 9: Sat. Full day excursion to Lake Kara-kul in the Pamir Qiniwak Hotel 200 km.
Day 10: Sun. Sunday market, Mosque, old city, Apaq Hoja Tomb. Qiniwak Hotel
Day 11: Mon. Drive to Turogart Pass, change car to drive to Naryn. Private Yurts. (4 - 6 persons to a Yurt)
Day 12 Tue. Drive to Almaty via Bishkek.
