The Ili river is a shallow river, about 300 m wide, with a current of two meters per second. The delta of the Ili river is a real animal kingdom, one of the richest natural regions of Kazakhstan. Its ornate of fauna is a special diverse one. In Balkhash are more than 80 species of birds, many of which have been recorded in the “Red Book” of Kazakhstan. The Ili river is one of the richest in the CIS in variety of fish. One of our clients caught a catfish, length 2,53 m. weight 108kg. It was the best record ever made.
The Climate is dry and hot, day temperature during this period doesn’t exceed 35 degrees and water temperature is 20-22 degrees. Setting out for traveling, please think about your outfit and equipment, allowing for sun burning, you should have low rubber boots. Duration of daily traveling does not exceed more than 6 hours. The river trip will end in the village of Karauziak on the bank the Balkhash Lake.
Note: Tourists should have hats, sunglasses, sport clothes and hiking boots.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival to Almaty, transfer to the hotel(2), at leisure. Evening tour of Almaty.
Day 2: Drive to the village Aral-Tube, 320 km in 5 hours. Assembling of catamaran and kayaks, making of a camp.
Days 3-5: Floating along the Ili River to lake Balkhash.
Day 6: Floating on Lake Balkhash to village Karauziak. Continue to Ili river by bus.
Day 7: Return to Almaty, 400 km in 7 hours. Overnight at the hotel(2).
Day 8: City tour: State Museum. Museum of National Instruments. Lunch in a restaurant. Visit the green bazaar and excursion to “Medeo”.
Day 9: Leaving Almaty.
