Your Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival Day. Vancouver/HI Jericho Beach
Welcome, orientation, review of the itinerary, questions, medical forms.
Day 2: Gold Rush Heritage Trail/ Chilcotin Plateau
Scenic drive through the Coastal Mountains and along the original route of the gold rush wagon trail. There will be two main breaks en route for breakfast and lunch. Other stops for photos and points of interest.
Day 3: Chilcotin/Tweedsmuir Park/Grizzly Cabins
An early start to travel across the Chilcotin Plateau, a stunning wilderness area. There will be stops to take in the spectacular scenery. The journey will take the group into Bella Coola valley and Tweedsmuir Park and the Atnarko River cabins, where there is a high density of bears to feeding on the spawning salmon.
Day 4: Bear Watch/Tweedsmuir Park
Hike one of the local trails. Tour the local scenic viewing spots along the salmon filled rivers where the Grizzly bears congregate.
Day 5: Salmon Adventure (Estuary Tour)
Drift along the Atnarko River with Kynoch Adventures, local biologist guides, for an interpretive look at the salmon spawning area where the Grizzlies can be seen fishing for salmon. Very Good chance of seeing Grizzly bears so don’t forget the camera.
Day 6: Wilderness River Drift
A scenic river drift down the Bella Coola river. This is not a white water raft. A great way to get another perspective of this wonderful valley.
Day 7: Cultural Tour to Ancient Rock Carvings. Petroglyph Gallery
Meet the Nelson brothers, two local native guides for their Rock Carvings Tour in Thorsen Creek. Visit the Petroglyph Gallery for an excellent display of local carvings and artwork from the local native Nuxalk people.
Day 8: Alpine Day/Blue Jay Lake (including Walker Island and Grizzly Watch)
Depending on road conditions this journey into the alpine will provide a different perspective of the area and stunning views.
Day 9: Estuary Tour (Salmon Adventure) Tallheo Cannery
Zodiac speed boat tour around the wildlife rich estuary with a fisheries biologist and diver. Historic Cannery Tour and fresh sea food dinner.
Day 10: Transit to Vancouver. End of tour
Return along the Gold Rush Trail via Hope back to HI Jericho Beach.
