Sometimes dubbed Prague the Golden; sometimes Prague, the City of A Thousand Spires, Czech Republic's capital may be known by several names, but it is without doubt the only one of its kind. One of Europe's and the world's greatest cities, Prague is a classic tour destination with a little something for everyone and we allocate ample time to discover its blatant and hidden beauty. Heading into the countryside, we make pit-stops to tour Renaissance chateaux and Gothic fortresses en route to Karlovy Vary, an elegant spa town wherein we have the chance to embark on a funicular ride and enjoy delightful, panoramic vistas. A visit to Cesky Krumlov to admire Renaissance, Baroque and Gothic architecture and the UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site of the castle complex rounds of the Czech Republic portion of our adventure in style.
As we cross into the Slovak Republic, we pass through spectacular rural sceneries and stop off in medieval towns, like Telc, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, before we reach the capital, Bratislava. Though less-visited and less well-known than its glamorous neighbor, Czech Republic, Slovakia offers a different experience to the traveler and one that is perhaps a more accurate representation of true nature of the countries of Central Europe. It retains the charm that makes places like the Czech Republic so popular, though is not dressed up with all the glamour.
From the historic Old Town of Bratislava, we leave urban centers bound for nature and for Pieniny National Park, the jewel in the crown of European sites of natural beauty. Where we find the heart of Europe in the Czech Republic, we find its soul in Slovakia.
