Lodging Highlights
Black Rock Lodge is a perfect escape for eco-tourists and nature lovers. In the hilly western part of Belize, it is close to hiking, rivers, and Mayan ruins. The lodge has extensive trails on its property for hiking or horseback riding, and is situated along the Macal River—perfect for a quick swim! The lodge has separate cabins and an open-air central dining area with a view over the river below and to the cliffs high above.
Machaca Hill is similar to Black Rock in that it includes separate cabins that are surrounded by jungle. The lodge is part of an 11,000 acre preserve, of which very little has been developed. Howler monkeys are frequent visitors, and wildlife is plentiful in the area. The lodge is on a ridge high above the Rio Grande, which flows seven miles from the lodge to the Caribbean.
