From Kuching you’ll set off by road and longboat deep into the heart of Sarawak. During your two-night stay with your Iban (headhunter!) hosts you’ll hike jungle trails, try Iban-style fishing and swim at a waterfall. In Bako National Park you walk trails and look for wild boar, monitor lizards and proboscis monkeys. The anticipation and excitement builds as you travel to Sepilok - home of the important orang-utan rehabilitation project where you’ll learn about this wonderful yet endangered animal.
Turtle Island is one of the few places where marine turtles come almost year-round to lay their eggs - you’ll relax and hopefully see them come ashore. You end your adventure of a lifetime at the seaside city of Kota Kinabalu, where you can enjoy a snorkelling trip to beautiful coral islands (optional). Families that enjoy regular hill climbing may want to extend their stay with an ascent of Mt. Kinabalu – see separate details.

Day 1: Join trip Kuching
Day 2: Kuching city tour; free afternoon
Day 3: Travel by road and river to dinner with villagers
Day 4: Explore jungle, swim at waterfall, Iban-style fishing
Day 5: Explore Bako NP; overnight in park lodge
Day 6: Return to Kuching; continue to Damai
Day 7: Fly to Sandakan; Sepilok orang-utan rehab centre
Day 8: Turtle Island
Day 9: Fly to Kota Kinabalu; free
Day 10: Free day; optional snorkelling trip or to Poring H ot Springs and Mt Kinabalu NP
