The grand former capital, Rio de Janeiro's history is alive in its many Imperial buildings and gardens. Filled with flora and fauna, nestled between sea and mountains, the city has been enchanting everyone from nobles to celebrities for centuries, from Portuguese Emperors to Walt Disney. Just 3 hours away, Buzios has been called the 'playground of the rich', with its wealth of secluded beaches, bars and surf.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in the cidade maravilhosa, Rio de Janeiro. Welcoming you to the 'marvelous city' is your bilingual Tour Director or representative who will escort you to your hotel in Copacabana - The Luxor Continental. The afternoon is free for a stroll, some shopping or relaxing on the beach or at your rooftop pool! Meet your fellow travelers for a complementary caipirinha or other tropical drink while attending a Rodizio, an All-You-Can-Eat Brazilian Barbecue (included). Includes: (D).

Day 2: The panoramic view from the top of the Sugar Loaf Mountain is the highlight of today's sightseeing tour. Board a funicular to reach the summit with its 360† spectrum of golden beaches, green forests and a thriving metropolis that has earned Rio de Janeiro the title of the world's most beautiful city.

Sightseeing continues with a tour of Rio's historical past. Learn how Portugal's prince scandalously broke all family ties and declared himself Emperor of Brazil. In the afternoon heat everything slows down and the Cariocas (as the people of Rio call themselves) head for the beach! Try Ipanema and Copacabana. Includes: (B).

Day 3: Depart for the imperial summer residence of Petrópolis, still home to heir to the throne Dom Pedro de Orleans e Bragança! The tombs of Brazil's first Emperor Dom Pedro II, his wife Dona Teresa, and the liberator of the slaves Princess Isabela are all here. View the Crystal Palace, built in France as a greenhouse to grow orchids, and visit the Imperial Museum in Dom Pedro II former palace. Petrópolis was also home to the real father of aviation (and inventor of the wristwatch) Santos Dumont. Includes: (B).

Day 4: Christ the Redeemer keeps an eye on Rio from an elevation of 710 meters (2340 ft). Board the tremzinho (cogwheel railway) up to the top of Corcovado Mountain for a bird's eye view of the center of the city from the center of the city! Includes: (B).

Day 5: Cross the 11km long bridge across the Bahia Guanabara heading for the lake region, regio dos lagos, misnamed for its lagoons. Surrounded by 17 beaches, Buzios, once Brigitte Bardot's secret escape (with her Brazilian boyfriend in tow), is today the playground of Rio's social elite. Buzios is also home to Brazil's most famous movie festival. Check into the Villa Boa Vida, your home for the next three nights. Tonight's dinner is included. Bon appetite! Includes: (B), (D).

Day 6: Buzios offers everything from tranquil beaches to all-night celebrations. Depart today on a schooner cruise around the islands, including lunch, caipirinhas and snorkeling gear! The afternoon is free for sand, surf or shopping. Includes: (B).

Day 7: Relax! You're on holiday! Your Tour Director will give you tips for further excursions. Includes: (B).

Day 8: Transfer back to Rio de Janeiro for your tour continuation, or you return home.
