The summits of Orizaba (18,851 ft.) and Ixtaccihuatl (alternatives are Nevado de Toluca (15,390 ft.) and La Malinche (14,640 ft.) will be the main objectives of this ten-day sojourn south of the border.
While not technical climbs, they do require a relatively high level of commitment and conditioning. It is strenuous, and to complete three climbs in one trip requires a sustained effort that can only be realized through proper training and conditioning.
We will start our trip from the hotel in Mexico City, traveling to Toluca west of Mexico City to climb Nevado de Toluca to start our acclimatization. We then head east to the city of Puebla and the resort at the base of La Malinche. Continuing our conditioning and acclimatization we hike to the summit of La Malinche (14,640 ft.).
We then spend a day traveling via local transportation to the sleepy town of Tlachichuca. Spending the evening at the home of Senor Reyes, arranging transportation, obtaining supplies for the trip to the Piedra Grande Hut at the base of Orizaba. The following day we will travel to the Piedra Grande Hut for the evening.
The next day we will attempt the summit of Pico del Orizaba and with our success return to Tlachichuca for the night. We then head off to the beautiful town of Pueblo to rest and enjoy the Mexican culture before boarding our private transportation directly to the Mexico City Airport for our flights back to the US. Our expedition to Mexico is an exciting mix of sightseeing, climbing, traveling and enjoying the Mexican culture.
