People have always wished of "crossing the borders" in all spheres of their activity. Chose this tour, and you will cross at least one border - the one between the Czech Republic and Germany, and maybe more!

This is probably the least demanding of the eight-day trips we offer in 2008, both in the terrain and navigation. Since the most part the route follows the Labe River, you can be assured that you will not need to climb any hills! No up-hills and the average daily distance of 42 km (27 miles) make this a very pleasant and relaxing trip suitable for families with children as well as for people who are only moderately confident about their physical fitness.

The tour starts at the Prague airport or at your Prague hotel reception. After welcome briefing AVE shuttle bus will take you with all your luggage and bikes to Dresden. You can also plan your holiday going directly to Dresden and meet the rest of the group at the hotel. In the following five biking days you will be riding up the stream of Labe and Vltava Rivers to Prague.

You will have the opportunity to marvel at the steep rocks on the Labe riverbanks in the border area. You will visit towns like Decin, Usti nad Labem, Litomerice, or Melnik and many others. You can also visit the concentration camp in Terezin, chateau in Melniku, rowing channel in Racice and other places of interest.

The last two days of the trip are intended for you to collect the reward you surely deserve after having biked for 5 days - you will spend the two days in Prague! Prague is certainly one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in Europe.

There are innumerable cultural events, cafes, pubs and restaurants and vivid night life waiting for you! It is the perfect closure to a splendid holiday! You will receive a brochure with detailed information about all sights on your journey at the welcome briefing.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1 Guided Group tours usually start on the scheduled day at 9 a.m. Self-Guided tours and non-scheduled tours start upon clients’ request on any day from April until the end of October. Welcome briefing, transfer from Prague to Dresden (160 km = 100 miles by AVE minibus). The trip takes about 3 hours. After check-in at the hotel in Dresden you will have time to spend a pleasant evening sightseeing in Dresden.

Day 2 Dresden - Hrensko Sandrocks (55 km = 34 miles by bike) After adjusting bicycles to match to bikers’ body dimensions, and practical biking safety training (on guided group tours only), the time after breakfast can be spent sightseeing in the centre of Dresden on bikes. The cycling path starts next to the main square in Dresden. The route of the first day follows the river all the time; you will just change the riverbanks twice using bridges or ferries. Getting closer to the Czech border, we will see the amazing sandstone scenery of the Sachs National Park. Lunch on the way. Accommodation and dinner at Hrensko.

Day 3 Hrensko Sandrocks - Usti nad Labem (40 km = 25 miles by bike)
We recommend a walking trip to Pravcicka Brana, an amazing rock formation creating a gateway. The cycling section will follow the Labe River again to Usti nad Labem. The retro-communist Hotel Labe is situated on the main town square and is where our groups usually stay. We will pass through Decin, famous for its beautiful chateau and Rose Garden (optional excursions). Accommodation at Usti nad Labem.

Day 4 Usti nad Labem - Litomerice (27 km = 15 miles by bike) The short distance and ease of this day gives you the chance to visit the ruins of Strekov castle, close to Usti nad Labem, in the morning. In the afternoon (after arriving in Litoměřice), you will have the opportunity to visit the World War II concentration camp of Terezín, situated just 5 km from Litoměřice. Lunch on the way. Check-in at the hotel in Litoměřice.

Day 5 Litomerice - Melnik (48 km = 29 miles by bike) This agricultural area of fields and meadows called „Polabi“ is the typical landscape for this day’s programme. You can make a short stop in Roudnice and have lunch at Racice, where you will visit the rowing channel, which is famous for international championships. Later on you will arrive in Melnik. The chateau in Melnik, on the top of a hill above the junction of the Labe and Vltava rivers, is well-known as the seat of the Lobkowitz Family. Check-in at the hotel in Melník.

Day 6 Melnik - Prague (51 km = 32 miles by bike), You can take the Melnik chateau excursion at the beginning of the day if you wish. Then, the bike route will take you along the Labe River to Neratovice. You leave the river for a while and cycle through pine-tree forests so typical for this part of the country. Lunch on the way. The end of the cycling section finishes at your Prague hotel. For Self-Guided tours we recommend reaching downtown Prague by metro.

Day 7 After breakfast, pickup from hotel at 9 am, transportation to the starting point for the Grand Bicycle Tour of Prague (32 km /20 miles on bikes). You will cycle through the most well-known and essential sights of Prague. The tour takes about six hours and includes lunch. You will have a free late afternoon and evening for sightseeing and shopping for presents.

Day 8 Breakfast and free time. Transfer to Prague Airport to catch your plane, unless you have decided to prolong your holiday in the Czech Republic.
