Tour Itinerary:
Day 1, Friday: USA - Warsaw. Departure on a regular scheduled flight from the U.S. to Warsaw.
Day 2, Saturday: Warsaw
Morning arrival at Warsaw airport. A transfer will take you to your Warsaw Hotel. You may choose to spend the day relaxing after your flight, or you may explore the city. In the evening meet your tour escort, and your fellow travelers in the lobby of your hotel at 6:00 p.m. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant followed by a concert of the most famous works of Frederic Chopin, performed by a renowned pianist in a two-part recital. Overnight in Warsaw. Includes: (D).
Day 3, Sunday: Warsaw
After breakfast, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Warsaw. This tour includes the Old Town, which was rebuilt after WWII. One of the highlights includes the impressive Royal Castle, which was the residence of the kings of Poland. Tour some of the castles 300 rooms with the interior carefully restored to its original condition. Visit the Canaleeto Room, complete with his 23 paintings of the time period, documenting the amazing detail of Warsaw’s architecture. See the Throne Room, magnificent Knights Hall with six large paintings by Marcello Bacciarelli, the Marble room with 22 portraits of Polish kings and the largest and most impressive of all the castle’s chambers, the Ballroom. Spend the afternoon at your leisure after a visit to the famous Warsaw coffee shop "U Bliklego" for a typical Polish doughnut (paczek).
In the afternoon, drive to Zelazowa Wola, the birthplace of Frederic Chopin. Visit the interiors of the manor house, now a museum devoted to our great composer, where you will see memorabilia of Chopin and his family. Tonight you are invited for a home-based dinner served by young artists who will welcome you into their charming wooden cottage, based at the Lowicz castle ruins. Meet with their family, and enjoy some Polish traditions. Includes: (B), (D).
Day 4, Monday: Warsaw-Czestochowa-Oswiecim-Krakow
After breakfast the group travels to Czestochowa. There we will visit the Jasna Gora Monastery, which is the religious and spiritual center of Poland and the home of the world famous Black Madonna painting. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. Continue to Auschwitz, to see the former Nazi concentration camp. Prior to your arrival in Krakow, a short stop will be made in Wadowice, the birthplace of Pope John Paul II. Later that afternoon, check-in at your hotel in Krakow. Dinner tonight is on your own. Includes: (B), (D).
Day 5, Tuesday: Krakow
In the morning, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Krakow, the ancient capital of Poland. Your tour will begin with the Royal Castle and Cathedral on Wawel Hill, where Polish kings were crowned and buried. Afterwards, enjoy a drive to the Old Town and see the Main Market Square, complete with magnificent houses and palaces. In the middle of the square is the Cloth Hall built before 1349, but altered in 16th century to accommodate many shopping booths in the interior. We will take a short break for cake and coffee at the famous Kracow coffee shop "Jama Michalika”, which displays beautiful glass painted windows and drawings by local artists. The afternoon is at your leisure. Dinner is on your own. Overnight in Krakow. Includes: (B).
Day 6, Wednesday: Krakow-Zakopane
After breakfast we depart for Zakopane. Enjoy a half-day tour of Zakopane, which is situated at the foot of the Tatra Mountains. This is the most popular resort in Poland, because of its picturesque location and natural landscape. Once a small mountain village, Zakopane became a fashionable and popular resort for artists, writers and musicians in the beginning of the 20th century. In the afternoon, you may explore and shop at the famous Krupowki Street, which features many of local artists’ wares. Dinner tonight will be at a local restaurant with traditional folklore dancing. Overnight in Zakopane. Includes: (B), (D).
Day 7, Thursday: Zakopane-Wieliczka-Warsaw
Today we will drive to Warsaw. En route, a stop will be made in Wieliczka to view the oldest Salt Mine in Europe. See the gorgeous underground world of salt lakes, galleries and chapels created by many generations of Polish Miners. It is possible to see up to 20 excavated chambers on 3 levels, full of beautiful statues sculpted from salt. A light lunch will be served at a local inn before we continue our drive to Warsaw. Check-in for the final night of your tour, and meet your group this evening for a farewell dinner. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 8, Friday: Warsaw. A transfer to the airport will be arranged, for your flight back to the U.S.
