This remote corner of Cape Breton Island is splendid in natural beauty and steeped in history. En route we visit the Fortress of Louisbourg, the former bastion of French power in on the continent and now the largest historical reconstruction in Canada. We will also circumnavigate, Scatarie Island, the most easterly point in Nova Scotia which had an active fishing community that once provisioned the French fortress. This deserted outpost has been left with a few ruins, an abandoned light station, and one the largest grey seal herds in the province.
