Canada's Johnstone Strait: Orcas and Bald eagles. Best place in North America to paddle with orcas - as 250 resident orcas congregate here each July -Sept to feast strictly on the salmon runs that are funnelled into the strait. Five or six-day guided sea kayaking/camping trips include stable two-person kayaks, paddling gear/instruction, all camping equipment, sun showers, sleeping bags/pads/sheets, neoprene booties, camp chairs, hearty meals, ground transportation. Highest guide-guest ratio you'll find. Hotels and airfare are not included. Itinerary does not include days traveling into and out of Port McNeill, on northern Vancouver Island, BC Canada. No previous kayaking experience is necessary.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: In the morning, we'll drive to the put-in site. We'll teach you the basics of paddling before launching kayaks. Paddle to first night's campsite.

Day 2: We will be kayaking throughout Orca (killer whale) territory, camping adjacent to the Robson Bight Orca Reserve, and exploring nearby channels and islands, including an important "First Nations" (Indian)site and orca research station.

Day 3: We continue to explore Johnstone Strait and make further camps (2-3 camps for the whole trip) on secluded island beaches that dot this section of the magnificent Inside Passage.

Day 4: We frequently see groups of orca in their hunt for salmon. The thrilling encounter of an orca surfacing next to you kayak is something you'll never forget. The area is also home to dolphins, bald eagles, black bear, deer, seals and hundreds of sea birds.

Day 5: Additional possible activities include a visit to the ancient village of Memlimquis to view fallen totem poles and remains of a traditional longhouse, as well as fishing from a kayak. The trips are led by experienced sea kayak guides versed in marine ecology.

Day 6: We'll paddle to take-out site in afternoon and then take a van back to Port McNeill. Fun farewell dinner in town.
