Guaranteed whale sightings! Experience gray whales up close and personal in Magdalena Bay, one of only 3 calving lagoons of Baja's Pacific Coast (all federally protected now). This is the winter home and calving grounds of hundreds of gray whales. Our exclusive safari-style beach camp is centered right in the area of peak whale activity - we can even hear whales breathing at night! Fabulous birdwatching also on shore and tidal mudflats and mangroves.
5,6 and 7-day camping trips include 2 nights' hotel and airport transfer in Loreto, whale watching by skiff with licensed whale watching guides, optional sea kayaking, all sleeping & camping equipment, stable two-person kayaks, all paddling gear and instruction, bountiful healthy meals, guides, all tour ground transportation. Airfare, meals in town, gratuities not included.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Loreto airport. You'll be greeted by our ground service and transported to the hotel. Pre-trip meeting with guides at the hotel.
Day 2: In the morning you'll ride in our van to the launch site. We'll board the skiffs for 2 hours whale watching in the heart of whale activity (this is truly the best way to get up close to these gentle giants) and settle into camp & dinner. Beachcomb & stargaze.
(L, D)
Day 3: Our days are filled with watching dolphins, whales and birds, exploring the rich mangrove inlets, hiking along the sand dunes, beachcombing, swimming, stargazing.
(B, L, D)
Day 4: 5-day tours depart after whale watching to Loreto and night in hotel (fly out Day 5). Continue to explore this remote lagoon on Baja's wild west coast by skiff, kayak and foot. Observe whales, dolphins and hundreds of migrating shorebirds.
(B, L, D)
Day 5: 6-day tours depart after whale watching to Loreto and night in hotel (fly out Day 6). Miles of uninhabited ocean beaches and fascinating sand dunes are only a short hike from our safari-style camps on a secluded sand barrier island. If you enjoy nature this trip is a must.
(B, L, D)
Day 6: We meet our skiff captains, who will take us gray whale watching by skiff for several hours before lunch and return to Loreto for night in hotel & farewell party that night.
(B, L)
Day 7: Our ground service will provide transportation to the airport for your flight to Los Angeles and connecting flights homeward.
