There are varieties of different habitats around Bilen for birds, wildlife, flowers and plants: the hot springs and the surrounding wetlands, the patch of natural forest at the northern tip of Ilalaytu hill, the riverine forest along the Awash River. Over 440 species of bird have been recorded in this area including rare species such as yellow throated serin, somber chat and Arabian bustard. Warthog, dik dik, mongoose, vervet monkeys, olive baboons and turtles are common. Camel treks around the vicinity of the lodge and across the Awash river will bring oine to lakes with hippo and Crocodiles. The Afar people are the owners of this land and we will meet them as guides and mediators to Afar culture, working in the lodge, accompanying travelers for trekking.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Hotel. Overnight Sheraton Addis
Day 2: After break fast drive to the Blen Ecological lodge. On the way visit two of the Crater lakes in Debre-Zeit. Before heading to the Lodge head to the Awash National Park for game viewing. Finally transferred to the lodge. Overnight Blen Lodge
Day 3: Early in the morning have a drive safari in the near by forest for bird watching and a visit to the Afar Village. After a visit head to the Bishangari lodge. On the way visit the Rift Valley lake of Zeway. Overnight Bishangari Lodge
Day 4: Have a walk in the near by bush of the lodge for bird watching and have another time of horse riding. In the after noon visit to the near by twin Lakes of Abiyata-Shalla. Overnight Bishangari Lodge.
Day 5: Drive from Bishangari- Aregash Lodge. Have time of walking in the near by forest for bird watching and a visit to the typical Sidama people house. Overnight Aregash Lodge
Day 6: Drive to the newly bustling city of Awassa with a visit of the Lake and back to Addis. On the way visit to the hot spring of Wendo Genet. Have a traditional dinner and dancing and be transferred to air port for departure.
