Tour Itinerary
Tana-Antsirabe-Fianarantsoa-Ranomafana-Manakara-Ianarantsoa-Isalo- Tulear-Ifaty-Tana-Perinet
Day 1: Arrival in Tana. Arrival at the airport welcome and transfer to the hotel. City-tour in Tana. Overnighting in a Hotel*. BB
Day 2: Antananarivo - Antsirabe 170 km. Departure for Antsirabe by car in the Highlands through the green rice fields. Lunch at the Restaurant "au rendez vous des Pêcheurs" in Ambatolampy. Continuation to Antsirabe, the town was built by the Norwegian missionaries and is famous for its rickshaws, thermal springs, semi-precious and precious stones. The visit of the stone cutter factory is a must. Hasina*. BB
Day 3: Antsirabe - Fianarantsoa 240 km. Transfer to the crater lake,renowned for its tales. Visit of a typical peasant family. Continuation to Ambositra, capital of the Zafimaniry region, known for its sculpture and marquetery. Lunch at the restaurant "Motel Violette" Transfer to Fianarantsoa, the administration centre of the Betsileo tribe. Soafia Hotel/ Zomatel***. BB
Day 4: Fianarantsoa-Ranomafana 60 km. Drive to the National Park of Ranomafana, where the golden bamboo lemur was rediscovered in 1989. Several endemic animal species can be observed very closely: birds, chameleons, frogs, insects and lemurs. Nocturnal Walking in the Park. Hotel Domaine Nature (Bungalow)/ Ihary Hotel. BB
Day 5: Ranomafana-Manakara 120 km. In the morning, walking in the National ParkDrive to the East Coast, to Manakara, today You will pass through Ravinala Forests (Travelers' Palm) and export plants plantations such as cloves, Leeche-trees and Pepper. Ampilao Beach Hotel BB (Bungalow on the sea).
Day 6: Driving by Train from Manakara through Rain Forests to Fianarantsoa 160 km. You continue the trip to Fianarantsoa by trip. Day 7: Fianarantsoa - Ranohira 300 km. City-tour in Fianarantsoa. Transfer to Ambalavao, the wine-growing region and the biggest zebu-market of the island. Stop at the Antaimoro paper-manufacturing centre; nice papers are made all by hand from plants similar to papyrus, the so-called "Avoha" and decorated with many flowers.
Lunch at the Restaurant "aux Bougainvilliers". You have left the Hauts-Plateaux and enter the Bush in the South. In the next town Ihosy, the capital of the Bara tribe (mostly shepherds), you will meet Bara people with spears and large zebu herds, a sign of wealth in the southern region. Continuation through the grasslands of Horombe to the ruin-like massif of Isalo, home for lemurs and sapphire. Accomodation in tent in Isalo Ranch near the National Park of Isalo. HB
Day 8: Ranohira (Canyon of makis, Canyon of rats). Walking to the National Park of Isalo to the Canyon of Makis and rats to the waterfall Namazaha. Driving back to Isalo Ranch. Accomodation in tent HB 14 km.
Day 9: Trekking from The canyons to the "natural swimming-pool"; 16 km. The trekking departs from the Canyons to "natural swimming-pool", a delightful oasis in the middle of the ruin-like massif. The tombs of the Bara people are placed between the rocks in the Park. Birds, snakes, lemurs. live there. Before getting dark you will enjoy the sunset at "la fenêtre de l'Isalo". Nice palm-trees remind you of the Arabian landscapes. Picnic in the Park. Accomodation in tent in the National Park of Isalo.
Day 10: Ranohira - Tuléar - Ifaty 267 km. Traveling towards Tuléar. On your way you will see the fantastic baobabs that can be used as water reservoir for the inhabitants. On this day you will see the famous big Mahafaly tombs. These are particularly interesting because of the sceneries representing the daily life of the deceased. Lunch at Resaurant "Auberge de la Table", after the walking in the amazing Arboretum of Antsokay which shelters more than thousand species of endemic plants of the South such as the spiny plants and the the euphorbiaceas. Continuation to Tuléar, City-tour. Transfer to Ifaty. Ifaty Beach Club. BB
Day 11: Ifaty. Here you can enjoy a whole day of relaxation with a nice view on the sea as Ifaty is an idyllic and quiet fishers' village, a paradise for divers. Walking in the Baobab forest near the Hotel to see the spiny forets, especially interesting birds and other animals Free schedule. Possibility for nautical activities.
Day 12: Ifaty - Tuléar – Tana. Transfer to Tuléar, flight back to Tana. Overnighting in a Hotel*. BB
Day 13: Tana - Périnet 142 km. Transfer to Marozevo, 72 km from Tana. Visit of the famous exotic farming centre of Mr.Pereyras where you will see almost all the chameleon species of Madagascar, butterflies, lizards, snakes, bats and other interesting animals. Picnic in the Parc, continuation to Périnet. Nocturnal walking in the Reserve of Périnet. Feon'ny Ala Hotel/ Buffet de La Gare Hotel. BB
Day 14: Périnet. Trekking In the Reserve of Périnet where you can see the Indri, the biggest lemur species in the world. The Indri differ from the other sorts through their loud communication calls that can be heard even from 4 km distance. Lunch at the Restaurant Feon Ny Ala. Visit of the village Andasibe. Day 15: National Park of Mantadia in Périnet 14 km. Drive to the National Park of Mantadia, one of the rare primary forests in the World. Trekking in the Primary Forest of Mantadia which remind You of Amazonia to see Lemurs such as Sifaka and the brown ones. Feon'ny Ala Hotel/Buffet de La Gare Hotel. BB
Day 16: Flight back to Europe. Shopping at an artisans' market. Visit of the palace on the sacred hill of Ambohimanga. Flight back to Europe.
