Combine a visit to the wonderful World Heritage site of Borobudur with the awe inspiring natural wonder of sunrise at the active Mount Bromo volcano and, conditions permitting, a speedboat trip to Krakatoa island site of the devastating 1883 volcano explosion in our comprehensive 12 day itinerary. Afterwards optional tour extensions to other parts of Indonesia, Bali or Singapore etc. are available.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
After clearing customs and immigration on arrival at Jakarta airport you will be met and driven to Anyer where you check in to the Mambruk Beach Resort hotel.
Day 2: Anyer
After breakfast depart on a half day tour to Old Banten. There you will visit Kaibon Palace a partially restored complex which was used by the mother of one of the Banten Sultans. Then visit the Mesdjid Agung or Great Mosque which has a 5-tiered roof typical of early Javanese Mosques, and it’s tall octagonal minaret built in mid 16th Century. Also visit the ruins of Surosowan Palace, Fort Speelwijk and a Chinese Temple. (B).
Day 3: Krakatoa (subject to favorable weather conditions)
After an early morning breakfast you will leave about 7.00AM by speedboat on your excursion to Krakatoa. The journey time is about 2.5 hours and on arrival you will have time to explore the remains of the volcano caldera etc. Afterwards, if conditions allow, time for some swimming or snorkeling in the area before the return by speedboat to the mainland and onward drive by car to Jakarta. Overnight in Sari Pan Pacific hotel (B/L).
Day 4: Jakarta – Bandung
Early start for your morning sightseeing tour of Jakarta including visits to the Sunda Kelapa Harbour, Istiqlal mosque, and the National Museum. Later travel by car to Bogor where you will see the Botanical Gardens before continuing by road to Badung, the capital of West Java province. On arrival check in to hotel Grand Preanger. (B).
Day 5: Bandung Tour
Tour of Bandung and the surrounding area inlcuding the active volcano of Tangkuban Parahu and the nearby Ciater hotspring which flows trough the hot lava layer of the volcano. Continue through the beautiful countryside and highlands from where you can enjoy the magnificent view of the surrounding area. You will also see an Angklung Ujo performance which is music played on traditional instruments made from bamboo before returning to the hotel. (B).
Day 6: Bandung – Yogyakarta
After breakfast you will have a full day drive trough the beautiful landscape of west Java. During the drive you will see rice paddy fields, plantations, and many other interesting types of rural scenery including a stop at old fashioned Naga village on the way. Upon arrival at Yogyakarta check-in to the Melia Purosani hotel or similar. (B).
Day 7: Yogyakarta Tour
In the morning your excursion takes you to impressive Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple on earth, situated to the north of Yogyakarta. The temple is on a very unique site, surrounded by four mountains representing a floating lotus flower in a huge pond. The temple was built in the 9th century. From Borobudur, you will head on to see the Sultan palace, a center of Javanese culture. The palace houses thousands of items of interest. (B).
Day 8: Yogyakarta Tour
Morning tour to Prambanan, the temple of the slender girl. It's the largest and most beautiful Hindu temple in Indonesia. In the nearby area there are many other temples in the complex. In the afternoon you will be able to spend some time in the Kraton market district. (B).
Day 9: Yogyakarta – Bromo
Today you will be driven from Yogyakarta via the town of Solo, where you will have a visit to the Mangkunegaran Palace and the Klewer traditional market, to the Mount Bromo area. On arrival check-in at Hotel Grand Bromo. (B).
Day 10: Bromo
Early morning (about 3AM start!) drive by a jeep to Cemoro Lawang village and Mount Penanjakan (9000feet) where you can admire the beautiful sunrise and unique view. After sunrise continue to Mt. Bromo and pass through the spectacular “sea of sand”, ride on a horse, then finally climb the 245 steps to reach the rim of crater. After this return to the hotel for breakfast and a little free time before being driven to Surabaya where you check in to the Hyatt hotel. (B).
Day 11: Surabaya - Jakarta
After breakfast check out of the hotel and begin sightseeing in Surabaya. Included is a visit to the Surabaya Zoo to see the Komodo Dragon, then on to Kalimas Harbor. Traditional ships from Sulawesi called Pinisi still can be seen at the harbor. Also visit Sunan Ampel Mosque, the city's oldest moqsue where you can see the tomb of Sunan Ampel, one of the nine legendary holy men (Wali) who brought Islam to Java in the 15th century. Late afternoon transfer to the airport for flight to Jakarta by Garuda #GA319 departing at 3.00PM. Arrive Jakarta at 4.15PM and check in at Jakarta Airport hotel. (B).
Day 12: Departure
Morning transfer to the airport in good time to check in for your international flight to USA. (B).
