Mongolia Birdwatching Tours take place in remote wilderness areas of Mongolia. In 2004, 203 varieties with a total of 468 species of birds were recorded in Mongolia. Of these species, 81 are always reside in the country, and 385 are migratory. Out of that number, 250 nest here in the summer, 52 just travel through, 10 come from Siberia to winter, 9 spend some time in the summer before passing through, and 64 are periodically present. According to these statistics only 17 percent of Mongolia 's bird species are permanent residents, however, 71 percent utilize Mongolia as their summer nesting grounds. The bird fauna is particularly rich in waterfowl and shorebirds which, including gulls and terns, number 120 species, and birds of prey (thirty-eight species). They are thirty-four species of warblers, fifty-four species of butings, finches and sparrows, and six species of accentors.

The avifauna includes some Central Asian endemic species, the Altai Snowcock (Tetraogallus altaica) and Kozlov's Accentor (Prunella kozlovi), and a number of world and regionally endangered species such as White-naped Crane (Grus vipio), Siberian Crane (Grus leucogeranus), Hooded Crane (Grus monacha), Pied Harrier (Circus melanoleucos), Great Bustard (Otus tarda), Eurasian Black or Cinereous Vulture (Aegypius monachus), Dalmation Pelican (Pelicanus crispus), Black Stork (Ciconia nigra), Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni), Eurasian Spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia), Relict Gull (Larus relictus), Swan Goose (Cygnopsis cygnoides), and Bearded Vulture or Lammergeyer (Gypaetus barbatus).

This 21-day of the Grand Birdwatching Mongolia Expedition gets well off the beaten track and into the Central, South-Western and Southern regions of Mongolia. This Grand Mongolia Birdwatching Expedition takes place in remote wilderness areas of Mongolia. With a Minimum Group of 2 participants or more an ornithologist professor will lead the tour to remote wilderness areas of Mongolia. This Expedition requires flexibility, tolerance and spirit of adventure of every journey participant due to the remote wilderness areas. Cars have a hard time. Don't go without plenty of water (you need to buy it in Ulaan Bataar). Anyhow the tourism infrastructure has somewhat developed.
