The Kamchatka Peninsula and the Kuril islands are amongst the most geologically active and biologically rich regions of the globe. It has earned a reputation as the Pacific’s “Ring of Fire”. The many islands, bays, snow-capped volcanoes, alpine meadows and lowland forests support a great diversity of wildlife. The deep-water trench lying to the east and the mixing of the cold water of the sea of Okhotsk and warmer Pacific make it a very productive area especially for marine birds and mammals. The area is rich with birds and marine mammals. Huge bird colonies dot the cliffs and large seal rookeries are scattered along the coast. This region has the greatest diversity of seabirds in all of Asia. This voyage also visits the remote and seldom visited Commander Islands, also rich in bird life and sea mammals. It is an ideal cruise to which you can add some extra time exploring Kamchatka.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, explore the city and environs. Stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 2: Travel by coach transfer to the Port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, where you will be met by your expedition team, welcomed onboard Spirit of Enderby and depart for the southern Kamchatka Peninsula.

Day 3: Vestnik Bay (Ostrov Utashad), zodiac cruise unique wildlife-rich islands within the Bay area. These islands are home to thousands of seabirds, seals and sea otters.

Day 4: Onekotan Island (Black Lake), we have the opportunity of an extended walk in search of migratory species and wild flowers.

Day 5: On Simushir Island, we explore a flooded caldera that was a former submarine base. The afternoon is spent at Yankicho Island, which is one of the ornithological wonders of the world, home to thousands of Crested and Whiskered Auklets.

Day 6: The rugged south coast of Paramushir Island is ideal for exploration and walks to discover new landscapes.

Day 7: Russkaya Fiord on the Kamchatka Peninsula can only be described as spectacular.
