Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, group will be met by a representative of Blastours for a transfer to the hotel, where group will be treated to a welcome dinner. Overnight stay at the Afia Village Beach Resort ** (or similar), Accra.

Day 2: Set off for Ho in the Volta Region. Make numerous stops en route to include visits to local potters and drum makers, who will explain the process of drum making. Upon arrival we pay a courtesy call on the Chief of the village and also seek his permission to spend time in the village. Continue with an introduction and history of the lessons to be taken. Spend the evening having dinner to a cultural performance. Spend the night at the Chances Hotel*** (or similar), Ho.

Day 3: Start the day with lessons, which will include dance, drum, and songs of the indigenous people of this region. Continue with lessons after lunch. In the late afternoon, we visit the Tafi Atome Monkey sanctuary, the home to monkeys held sacred by the people. Listen to some folklore from some elders of the village around a bonfire. Return to the hotel after dinner. Spend the night at the Chances Hotel*** (or similar), Ho.

Day 4: Morning lessons in drumming and dancing. Continue with lessons in the late afternoon to be followed by a cultural performance by both tutors and students. Spend the night at the Chances Hotel*** (or similar), Ho.

Day 5: Visit the village Liate Wote trek through villages, cocoa farms and mountain rain forest to the Tagbo waterfalls, where one can take a refreshing bath. Return to Akosombo with stops along the route to visit potters, drum carvers, etc. Spend the night at the Afrikiko Riverfront Resort** (or similar), Akosombo.

Day 6: After breakfast, we experience a boat ride along the Volta river before setting off for Kumasi. Make a stopover at the bead market in Somanya. Continue trip to the Ashanti region, where we visit the village of Adanwomase. Group will be welcomed with cultural dancing and also make a presentation to the Chief. Spend the night at the Sanbra Hotel** (or similar), Kumasi.

Day 7: Set off for the village for more lessons in dances of the Ashanti Region. Start with an introduction and history of the drum and dance of this region. Continue with lessons after lunch. Spend the night at the Sir Max Hotel*** (or similar), Kumasi.

Day 8: Start the day with lessons in drumming and dancing. After lunch, take a break by visiting the craft village of Ntonso, a village famous for adinkra design. Learn the process of Adinkra printing from a Master and also stamp chosen motives on t-shirts. Continue with lessons in drumming and dancing. Visit the Kumasi Cultural Centre in the late afternoon. Spend the night at the Sir Max Hotel*** (or similar), Kumasi.

Day 9: Visit the Manyiah Palace (seat of the Ashanti Kingdom). Continue trip to the Central Region with a stopover at Assin Manso (the Slave river), where slaves were bathed and checked for fitness before being taken to the coast for shipment out of the Gold Coast. Meet up with the drum and dance troupe for a brief history and an intro into the lessons ahead. Overnight stay at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort *** (or similar), Elmina.

Day 10: Continue with lessons in the morning at the Oasis beach resort or similar. After lunch we visit the Cape Coast Castle one of the best-preserved castles in Ghana and also declared as UNESCO World Heritage site. Continue with lessons in the late afternoon. Overnight stay at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort *** (or similar), Elmina.

Day 11: Start the day with a lecture on African drumming and dancing. The cultural program continues after lunch with a drumming instruction at the Oasis Beach Resort, where we join the cultural troupe for a drum and dance performance. Overnight stay at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort *** (or similar), Elmina.

Day 12: Visit the Kakum National Park, which comprises of undisturbed virgin rainforest to experience a walking tour on the longest and highest canopy walkway in West Africa. Also visit the crafts shop at the park. We make a brief stopover at the Hans Botel, a resort partly built on stilts on a river with crocodiles, lots of bird life and monkeys. Visit the Elmina Castle, another well-preserved castle. Overnight stay at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort *** (or similar), Elmina.

Day 13: Free day at the beach for discussions. Return to Accra after lunch. Overnight stay at the Afia African Village Beach Resort ** (or similar), Accra.

Day 14: Start the day shopping for traditional African drums. Visit to the Centre for National Culture with a wide variety of handicrafts to include various types of African drums. Visit the Aid To Artisans of Ghana (ATAG) at the trade fair centre. Also visit dealers in local handicrafts including drums and xylophones around the Oko Adjei Roundabout. Check into airport after dinner for a late departure. No overnight stay .

End of program.
