Your Itinerary:

Day 1: Transfer to Cape Otway. Today starts with seeking out a few of the many furry Koalas that make the Cape Otway region their home. They are quite plentiful, but sometimes hard to spot curled up asleep in the Manna Gums. Your walk today commences at the Cape Otway Lighthouse. You can take in an optional tour of the grounds of the Lightstation, Victoria's most historic Light with Lighthouse Keepers Cottages and the original Signal Station (Victoria-Tasmania via King Island Telegraph) and the WWII Radar Bunker before heading off to the Aire River Estuary. Proceed over the Aire River Bridge, through the Aire River East camping ground and onto Castle Cove. Aire River is very popular in summer for camping and fishing. Trophy size Brown Trout are often taken from the Lake Craven/Aire River system. The lower reaches also support a large population of water birds including Pelicans. Proceed on to Castle Cove, here you will find an interpretive sign about the Polar Dinosaurs discovered at nearby Dinosaur Cove by Dr Patricia Vickers-Rich and Dr Tom Rich in the early 1980's. Walking time: 6.5 hours (15 km), grade: medium.

Day 2: Transfer to Milanesia Gate. Todays walk commences at Milanesia Gate, walk to Milanesia Beach. Just above the beach is a little cottage, a memorial from a local politician to his son killed in the First World War, the cottage was built in the early 1900's. The cottage is still used by the family for summer holidays. You are likely to encounter Kangaroos lazing on the grassy slopes along this section of the walk. Continue on to Ryan Den, a popular fishing spot and a short diversion (150 m) will provide you with a great stop; go through the camp site to the "grassy knoll" and enjoy the view, head west to Cape Volney and the Ledge and then past some spectacular rock pinnacles and the largest landslip in South Western Victoria and on to Moonlight Head. At the end of this section you will be welcomed with afternoon tea at Moonlight Retreat. Walking time: 6 hours (11.5 km), grade: hard.

Day 3: Transfer to Wreck Beach. Today you will pass the anchors of the Marie Gabrielle (1869) and the Fiji (1891). Take a few moments to consider just how hard it must have been to make your way from Wreck Beach to Cape Otway to be rescued as the crew of the Marie Gabriell did. Also the terrible loss of life from the Fiji. Continue over the rocks that separate Wreck and Moonlight Beaches and spend a little time looking for Moonlight Agate on Moonlight Beach and then up the steps to Devils Kitchen. The camp site here has a toilet with an amazing view. Proceed on to Princetown and take a short walk across the wetlands to the township for a cup of coffee or ice cream. Rejoin the the track and walk on past Clifton Beach and as you approach the end of the Walk the 12 Apostles are clearly visible. You will be picked up in the carpark at the end of the Walk and transferred to the 12 Apostles in order to explore the boardwalk and take a photo or two. Return to Moonlight Retreat. Walking time: 5 hours (17 km), grade: medium and easy.
