Your Itinerary:
Day 1: Belize City-San Ignacio. Upon arrival transfer to San Ignacio and Maya Mountain Lodge. This afternoon is free to relax in your hammock or explore the grounds of the Lodge. Dinner and overnight at the lodge. Accommodations are in comfortable cottages with thatched or tiled roofs, hot water, private bath, and ceiling fans. Includes: (D).
Day 2: Cahal Pech and Mountain Pine Ridge. Visit the nearby Mayan ruins of Cahal Pech. A stop at spectacular 1,000 feet falls affords an incredible view and an opportunity for a picnic lunch. Venture into Rio Frio Cave where huge stalactite and stalagmite formations invite exploration. A dip in the pools of the Rio On River will refresh you for the return drive to Maya Mountain Lodge. Dinner and overnight. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 3: Macal River/Medicine Trail. Set out for a dugout canoe ride up the Macal River to the Panti Trail of Mayan Medicine. Your guide will walk you through the jungle to point out the various plants used in traditional Mayan medicine for healing and disease prevention. This afternoon is free to relax, walk the trails, or browse in San Ignacio’s shops. Additional excursions such as horseback trail rides, canoing, or mountain biking can also be arranged. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 4: Tikal. Cross over to Guatemala for the grandest of all Mayan Ruins. Climb to the top of the "Temple of the Jaguar" rising above the jungle to overlook the many temples and main plaza. You will encounter many species of birds and the tropical hardwoods like mahogany and teak, along with countless ornamentals and edibles flourishing here. Includes: (B), (L), (D).
Day 5: Cave’s Branch Caving Float Trip–Jaguar Reef Lodge. Departing Maya Mountain Lodge this morning, you'll drive about 2 hours into the heart of the Maya Mountain range for a full-day caving adventure. Sitting in inner tubes with headlamps to light your way, you'll float down an underground river, and marvel at the glittering stalagmites and stalactites. Afterward, check in at the Jaguar Reef Lodge in thatch-roof cabañas with private bathrooms, air conditioning or ceiling fans. Nestled on miles of golden sand beach between the Maya Mountains and the Caribbean, Jaguar Reef Lodge is a deluxe base for exploring the wonders of the pristine barrier reef, abundant offshore cayes and protected interior rain forests. Free use of mountain bikes and sea kayaks, and optional excursions offered. Includes: (B), (L).
Day 6 and 7: Jaguar Reef Lodge. Days at leisure. Includes: (B).
