Tour Itinerary:
Day 1, Oct 4: Addis Ababa
Arrival in Addis Ababa, welcomed by our representative and be transferred to your hotel. Overnight Bole Ambassador Hotel (3* new and nice hotel).
Day 2, Oct 5: Addis Ababa - Gondar – Debark - Sanka Ber
Fly to Gondar and then drive to Debark (106km), the head quarter of the Simien Mountains, continue driving up to Buit Ras then hike to Sankabar (1 1/2hrs). You can spend the rest of the day spotting Gelada Baboons around Simien lodge. Sankabar is about 3260m above sea level. Overnight Simien lodge.
Day 3, Oct 6: Sanka Ber – Geech (5 -6hrs)
Hike to Geech, you will have many stops to admire the spectacular scenery. While crossing the river Jinbar, you will have a chance to spot many troops of Gelada baboon. Over night camping at Geech camp site (3550m).
Day 4, Oct 7: Geech – Chenek (7-8hrs)
Through the magnificent landscapes, you reach Imet Gogo at an altitude of 3986 meters above sea level, one of the highest peaks in the Simien Mountains. After having your picnic lunch on the way, continue towards Chenek camp site (3500m) where you spend the night passing through the giant lobelias forest. Here you can spot the endemic Walia Ibex. Over night camping at Chenek.
Day 5, Oct 8: Chenek – Ambiquo (6-7hrs)
Today, hike to Ambiquo passing through the Valleys of Serekawa and Mesheba, and Bwait Summit (4430m). From the distance, in the middle of cliffs and peaks, you can spot the Ras Dashen peak. Overnight camping at Ambiquo camp site (3200m) for two nights.
Day 6, Oct 9: Ambiquo - Ras Dashen – Ambiquo (9-10hrs)
Start very early to ascend Ras Dashen (4620 m), the highest peak in Ethiopia and the fourth highest mountain in Africa. The acclimatization is good and the ascension is not absolutely technical. It is just a long day of hike, on the roof of Ethiopia with a breathtaking view. Then descend back to Ambiquo for overnight.
Day 7, Oct 10: Ambiquo - Chenek (6-7hrs)
Trek back to Chenek in the same route you hike in the previous day crossing the Mesheba River. Overnight camping at Chenek camp site
Day 8, Oct 11: Chenek – Gondar – Addis Ababa - Departure
Start your hike very early to Ambarass (1 1/2 hrs) to meet your driver and then drive to Gondar. Then fly to Addis Ababa in the afternoon. Have a day use room at Bole Ambassador hotel and be transferred to the airport for your final departure.
