Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: On arrival in Lusaka where you will be met by a representative from Airwaves Charters and escorted to your charter flight to Mfuwe – the gateway to The Luangwa National Park. On arrival at Mfuwe Airport you will be met and transferred by road to Tena Tena Camp. This remote camp within the South Luangwa National Park enjoys a stunning location on a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River. A grove of mahogany trees shades four large custom-made tents, with en suite facilities, dressing room and veranda. From the thatched dining room and bar, guests can watch the elephants, hippo and antelope on the riverbanks.
Nearby is the spectacular Buca Buca Lagoon, where a whole morning can be spent sitting quietly while the game comes down to the water to drink. Being so remote, guests have these scenes to themselves. “Tena Tena is altogether beyond superlatives, and must be one of the best safari camps in the whole of Africa” (The Times of London). Spend three nights at Tena Tena on a fully inclusive basis (accommodation, drinks, meals, activities, laundry).
Day 2: Spend three nights at Tena Tena on a fully inclusive basis (accommodation, drinks, meals, activities, laundry).
Day 3: Spend three nights at Tena Tena on a fully inclusive basis (accommodation, drinks, meals, activities, laundry).
Day 4: Transfer back to Mfuwe Airport for the flight to Jeki airstrip in the Lower Zambezi Valley. On arrival you will be met and driven to Sausage Tree Camp, enjoying a game drive en route. One of the most exclusive camps on the Zambian side of the great Zambezi River, Sausage Tree Camp is nestled opposite the Mana Pools National Park, in the shade of towering sausage and mopane trees. Six large marquee style tents, with private outdoor facilities, are dotted along the river bank among creeping vines and tall trees.
Activities include walking, fishing, birding, canoeing and game drives. The main guest area houses a library, dining area, bar and fireplace and meals are taken under a tarpaulin cover or at night under a canopy of twinkling African skies. Spend three nights at Sausage Tree Camp on a fully inclusive basis (accommodation, meals, drinks, laundry, activities).
Day 5: Spend three nights at Sausage Tree Camp on a fully inclusive basis (accommodation, meals, drinks, laundry, activities).
Day 6: Spend three nights at Sausage Tree Camp on a fully inclusive basis (accommodation, meals, drinks, laundry, activities).
Day 7: After breakfast transfer to the airstrip in time for the flight to Lusaka, where you will connect with the flight to Johannesburg. On arrival at Johannesburg International Airport you will be met and transferred to Ten Bompas Hotel. Set in a tree-lined street in the suburb of Hyde Park, Ten Bompas Hotel is a unique and classic haven for travellers. Ten designer suites with an African theme, each uniquely interpreted by a different interior decorator, all open onto the garden or secluded patios.
This is a hotel unique in concept and in size, and facilities include an incredible restaurant with unsurpassed cuisine, complimentary mini bars in each suite and a crystal clear swimming pool set in landscaped gardens. Ten Bompas is located close to the exclusive suburbs of Rosebank and Hyde Park, both renowned for their shopping and variety of excellent restaurants. Spend one night at Ten Bompas on a bed and breakfast basis.
Day 8: After breakfast, you will be transferred back to Johannesburg Airport for the flight to Vilanculos. On arrival you will be met and transferred by boat to Benguerra Island Lodge, arriving in time for lunch. The lodge is built along a private beach on Benguerra Island and comprises a lounge, dining room and bar area that are set amongst an indigenous milk wood and acacia forest.
The eleven en-suite rooms are built along the same lines – stilted with reed under thatch. All rooms have electricity and ceiling fans and are built using reed half walls, and no doors and windows, to ensure any breeze is able to blow through the rooms, as it can get very hot in summer. On the private beach in front of the lodge, each room has its own umbrella and chaise lounge. A wide variety of activities are available, including snorkelling, wind surfing, sailing, fishing, and excellent diving. Spend five nights at Benguerra on a full board basis, including some non-motorized sports.
