Tour Itinerary:

Days 1-5: Fly into Pemba, Northern Mozambique. Transfer to Island. 6 dives all equipment included. There are 27 islands that make up the Quirimbas Archipelago. They lie between Pemba in Northern Mozambique and the River Ruvuma - the river that forms the border with Tanzania and Mozambique. This area remains one of the last undeveloped jewels in Africa. Virtually unknown to the outside world, the people who inhabit the islands have quietly gone about their daily business. Local fishermen build Arab style dhows hand-hewn from trees. They navigate hundreds of kilometres of winding channels and mangrove lagoons casting their nets and lines much as they have done for the last 1000 years.

It is the 'undiscovered' nature of these islands that make it so special for the sport of scuba diving. This is a place in the world where there are no cars, no roads, few hotels and therefore few tourists. For the diver looking for a very special location, this is it! With up to 30-meters visibility and water temperatures around a balmy 28 degrees C you can expect to see all coral reef species typical of the Indian Ocean region as well as game fish - yellow fin tuna, dog tooth tuna and marlin. There are also manta rays, eight species of shark (to date), whale sharks, huge schools of feeding barracuda, king fish of many species, red snappers, green and hawks bill turtles, pods of humpback dolphins not to mention the humpbacked whales in season. When you are done with diving for the day perhaps you'll even be fortunate enough to see a green turtle coming to lay her eggs on one of the many brilliant white palm fringed beaches.

Days 6-9: Fly to Vilanculos. Transfer to Bazaruto Archipelago. 5 dives all equipment inc. Lodge BD. Bazaruto Archipelago: Between the continent of Africa and the island of Madagascar lies a string of spectacular sub-tropical islands that rank alongside Australia's Great Barrier Reef as one of the earth's superb underwater wildernesses - the Bazaruto Archipelago. One of the most beautiful places in Africa and famous for its pristine beaches, the world is starting to discover what we here in Africa have known for awhile - that these islands offer world class diving.

Optional activities: Game fishing, dune boarding, horse riding, snorkeling, water-skiing, wake snake, wake boarding, knee boarding, doughnuting power kiting. Non-motorised water sports like kayaks, wind surfers and hobiecat sailing.

Bazaruto Island: Bazaruto - a beautiful subtropical island is one of five principal islands in the Bazaruto Archipelago, which lies just 30km off the coast of Vilanculos in Inhambane Province. It is the largest of all the islands, approximately 37 km long and up to 7 km wide. An ecological paradise - both on land and sea the whole Bazaruto Archipelago National Park falls into the Eastern African Marine Eco-region, which stretches over a 4,600km coastline, from South Africa to Somalia.

With visibility up to 40 m you will discover the world's largest fringing reef teeming with over 2,000 fish species, 100 hard and 27 soft coral species, four whale and five dolphin species, as well as the extremely rare Dugong. Described as a "sea cow" this big, gentle grass-eating mammal is closely related to the elephant. Dugong are found in shallow waters along the world's tropical coasts, yet have largely been hunted to the brink of extinction. Bazaruto has the largest remaining population in East Africa, raising the profile of the area to a global marine conservation priority. The island group is also home to all five marine turtle species, which annually come to the beaches to breed.

On land, Nile crocodiles can still be seen in the shallow lakes and pools on the islands as well as samango monkey, lesser bush baby, red duiker, four-toed elephant shrew and the highly endangered black rhino which inhabit the islands precious milkwood, acacia, papaya, hardwoods and mangrove forests. There are more than 180 species of birds, including Palaearctic migrants, vast flocks of pelicans and flamingoes and 26 species of waders.

Day 10: Make the short flight to Joburg and catch your flight home.
