Journey pass Maracas and Tyrico Bays and even after Zorro Road and look out for “Rincon Road” on your right. Turn into this road and drive all the way inside. On the second corner on your left, take this turn and drive up this road and park opposite the first house you see on your right.
We proceed on foot on our way. At the top of the road, ignore the left turn entirely and proceed ahead which is a trail. Ignore the clear trail dead ahead of you and instead take the other trail on your left and proceed. This trail takes you through a garden; be careful and do not trod onto any plants. We trek uphill until we are engulfed in the forest. The trail continues uphill and once we take our time, all will be well and eventually, we will reach the top. We continue trekking along the fairly long ridge until we come to a “T” junction; turn left at this junction and trek on until we come to another “T” junction; this time, we make a right turn and eventually the trail will lead us downhill. During the rainy season, this trek can be a very muddy affair, but in the dry season, a perfect trail. As we trek along further, the trail becomes steeper downhill. After about 15 minutes of downhill trekking, we will at last hear the pounding of the waterfall. A further 5 minutes and we’re there. Habio falls is the second highest falls in Trinidad and Tobago and because of the pounding of the waters onto the basin, the place is very breezy; so it is advisable to bring along a light sweater with you as it can eventually become very chilly. The pool? What can I say? Simply gorgeous. The water is just fantastic. True nature naturally all around you.
On our way back, a different route will be taken. Instead of turning this time left on the “T” junction, we head straight this time and just follow the trail which is very clear all the way back outside. Just before we reach the river crossing, there is a distinct road to our left, take this turn and that road will lead us right back to where our vehicles are parked. An absolutely great circuit trek. We can even make this trek vice versa, where how we came out can be the start and how we started be the end.
