Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Nearby Arnhem our first visit will be at Rosendael Castle and park. Rosendael castle gives a wonderful picture of what life was like in a castle in earlier times. The exceptional collection of furniture, silver and china bring the 18th and 19th centuries grandeur of its interior back to life. Highlights in the historic country park are the exceptional 18th century garden ornaments like the trick fountains, the shell gallery and the tea pavilion. Lunch and the afternoon we spent in National Park De Hoge Veluwe. This is one of the Netherlands' oldest and largest national parks. It consists of no less than 5,500 hectares of woodland, heathland, lakes and driftsand. Together with the Kroller-Muller Museum and the sculpture garden it offers a unique combination of nature, art and architecture.
De Hoge Veluwe is a park where visitors can still find plenty of space and peace. Where you can walk undisturbed for hours, or cycle using one of the free white bicycle. It is home to many endangered plant and animal species. Have you ever come face to face with a red deer, moufflon or roe deer? It can happen at De Hoge Veluwe! For diner and hotel we go to Deventer, city which was a member of the Hanseatic league. The Hanseatic League (also known as the Hansa) was an alliance of trading guilds that established and maintained a trade monopoly along the coast of Northern Europe, from the Baltic to the North Sea, during the Late Middle Ages and Early modern period (13th-17th centuries).
Day 2: In the morning we take time to explore Deventer with a city walk. Of course we stop at Jb. Bussink, the only one cake factory that has survived the ravages of time. In the little shop with the same name, the Brink fresh cake is made every day. Therefore this is a good operating base to explore the dazzling, free, imperial Hanseatic city of Deventer over a cup of coffee with gingerbread. Climb the 220 steps of the tower of the Great or Lebuinus church and be rewarded by the sight of a beautiful Hanseatic city along the river IJssel from a height of 60 meters. Almost 300 years old is the Royal Palace 't Loo, situated in the hart of the Netherlands at the edge of National Park De Hoge Veluwe. After a through restoration the palace has been opened for public since 1984.
The valuable decorated rooms give an impression on how the Royal Family of the Netherlands, the Oranjes lived for three centuries. De reconstructed gardens, with water ornaments and decorated flower patches breat the air of the 17th century. Between the wildlife of the Hoge Veluwe we stop for lunch in the small town of Vierhouten. We make our last stop at another city member of the Hanseatic league, Elburg. This medieval fishingtown along the banks of the former Zuiderzee is well known for the smoked eals from the Family van Triest. Since 1982, over 4 generations, they smoke eals the old-fashioned way following their family traditions. Of course we like you to taste this! Our final destination will be Zwolle, city along the IJsselriver, with plenty of possibilities for a good time.
