Experience the supreme solitude and beauty of backcountry skiing in the Sierra Nevada with a professional backcountry ski guide. This three day backcountry skiing instructional adventure begins with a ski into the beautiful Pear Lake area of Sequoia National Park to establish a comfortable base camp.

Backcountry skiing instruction includes ski touring techniques, avalanche awareness, winter camp craft, uphill and downhill backcountry skiing techniques on either randonee or telemark ski equipment, as well as navigation with compass, map and GPS. And oh yes, plenty of turns! Gain the confidence and skills to strike out on your own.

Includes a ski descent of Alta Peak, on of the Western Sierra Nevada's best backcountry ski peaks.

Location: Sequoia National Park, Wolverton Trailhead.

Lodging Option: One night’s lodging the night before we leave can be provided at the Wakasuchi Village Lodge only minutes from the trailhead (subject to availability)

Food: At California Alpine Guides we strive to provide healthy and delicious meals. All meals, including lunch and hot drinks, are provided by your guide / backcountry chef. Special diets can be accommodated.

Level: Must be in good to excellent physical shape and able to travel at a moderate pace all day. Required skiing ability is strong intermediate to advanced on either fixed-heel alpine touring (randonee) or free-heel (Telemark) ski equipment. Must be comfortable in ungroomed (powder and crud) conditions.

Dates 2008: Feb 29-Mar 2, Apr 4-6.

Cost: $495

Included: All group equipment including, tents and cooking gear. Avalanche safety equipment including shovel and avalanche transceiver. AMGA trained backcountry ski guides. All meals while in the backcountry.
