Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo are home to rich tropical rainforests populated with a diversity of exciting mammals. On this “ultimate mammal voyage” we will visit some of the region’s most famous wildlife sites including the charming Fraser’s Hill, the grand Taman Negara National Park, Danum Valley, protecting the largest pristine lowland rainforests in Bornean Malaysia, Tabin Wildlife Sanctuary and the swathing Kinabatangan River. The mammal-watching opportunities on this voyage are superb and we expect encounters with a variety of exciting mammals including ‘the old man of the forest’, the incomparable Bornean Orangutan, Proboscis Monkeys, with their strange pendulous nose and great pot belly, several species of agile Gibbons, mischievous Macaques, colourful Leaf-Monkeys, several species of Civets, wild cats, deer and some very impressive squirrels, including giant flying squirrels. While Tiger, Sun Bear, Clouded Leopard and the hairy Sumatran Rhinoceros all occur on our route we would certainly be very fortunate to observe these rare and seldom seen mammals.
To complement this rich selection of mammals are a variety of fascinating insects and an impressive mix of gaudy Asian birds typical of the region. Malaysia is a very modern Asian country that is a perfect destination for a mammal tour, offering first class facilities within an extensive range of national parks and nature reserves throughout. All in all, this trip promises an incredible, exotic blend of fabulous mammals and scenery; we greatly look forward to sharing the joys of this incomparable destination with you!
