Ride the waves, experience electrifying marine life and get up close and personal with the awe-inspiring Komodo Dragon on our 8-day Komodo Explorer kayaking tour. Our carefully crafted itinerary to Indonesia's Komodo Islands is one-of-a-kind, as we are the only company in the world that offers sea-kayaking trips through this fascinating ecosystem.
Home to the Komodo Dragon, the largest lizard on the planet, the 1,817-square-kilometer Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the treasures of Indonesia. On this journey, you will see these amazing creatures firsthand, while experiencing the wild natural beauty of their habitat from the seat of your kayak.
In addition to the Komodo Dragons, you will discover the many other wonders of the region, known for its marine biodiversity. You will paddle to some of Indonesia's most unspoiled and remote islands, camp out on beautiful, pristine beaches and visit charming local villages. The area also boasts some of the best snorkeling on the planet. Here you will swim among dozens of reefs, sharing the azure waters with an abundance of local marine life, including manta rays and sea turtles.
While enjoying both the sights and exhilaration of your sea tour, you will also help preserve the local ecosystem, through periodic cleanup of plastics in the park along the way. When you take an eco-travel trip with us, you will help keep our promise to maintain this incredible area for generations to come.
Discover the wonders of the spectacular Komodo National Park with this unique expedition, one of the most thrilling kayaking adventures in all of Asia!
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in Bali, Indonesia. Transfer provided to the group hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy free time to relax before the beginning of your kayaking tour.
Day 2: Fly from Bali to Labuan Bajo, where one of our experienced team members will meet you at the airport to take you to Labuan Bajo Harbor. Here we will have lunch before hopping on a boat to Kanawa Island. Once onboard your local kayaking guides will brief you on your itinerary. In Kanawa, you will stay in a guesthouse, located near a fantastic reef system. After settling in, we will take some time to go on a short practice paddle before preparing for the rest of the trip. (B)
Day 3: We will paddle south from Kanawa Island to Mangyatan Island. On the way, we will stop for lunch on a beautiful, deserted beach with opportunities for snorkeling. In Mangyatan will spend the night at a campsite with spectacular scenic vistas over the Komodo Islands, an incredible spot to watch the sunset. (B,L,D)
Day 4: We will paddle further south from Mangyatan Island to Wainilu Island towards Rinca Island, the main habitat of the Komodo Dragon. We will stop for lunch on the way and have the option of playing volleyball or soccer as well as the chance to relax or snorkel. (B,L,D)
Day 5: We will get up early in the morning to paddle from Wainilu Island to the Rinca Rangers Office to look for Komodo Dragons. Rinca (pronounced Rin-cha) is the best site in the park to spot the large reptiles since the island is home to the greatest number and density of the species. One of the park rangers will show us around the area while discussing interesting topics, including the Dragon’s habits, the ecosystem and interesting facts about other local species. After stopping for a drink at the Ranger’s Café, we will paddle north towards Nusapimpe Island, located off the coast of Rinca. We will stop for lunch on the way, with another opportunity to relax or snorkel, before embarking on a sunset paddle to a small mangrove island. Here we will witness an incredible sight as thousands of bats hunt for their evening meal. Finally, we will return to Nusapimpe Island where we will spend the night. (B,L,D)
Day 6: From Nusapimpe Island we will paddle for the first time along the Flores Coast as we head back to the Bajo Komodo Eco-Lodge. After landing just south of Labuan Bajo, we will head back to the hotel and have lunch before going on a tour of the famous Mirror Stone Caves. In the evening, we will have a final farewell dinner to celebrate the conclusion of the kayaking portion of our journey. (B)
Day 7: In Labuna Bajo, you will have a bit of time to explore before heading back to Bali. You can swim at the pool, stroll along the town harbor or just relax on the beautiful veranda that overlooks the sea. You will then fly from Labuna Bajo to Bali. After your flight, you will be met at the airport and taken to the group hotel. You have the option of staying there overnight or flying to your next destination that evening. (B)
Day 8: Fly home after an incredible Komodo kayaking adventure! (B)
