It presents the same characteristics as the times in which it was a calm fishermen town, the small sandy streets, the animals bred free and the quiet rhythm of life of its about 2.000 inhabitants. The fact that it is known for having one of the most beautiful beaches of Brazil has given place to the building of inns, restaurants and country pubs. From the plane – in a flight of about 50 minutes from the capital Fortaleza ( 240 km ) – long kilometres of beaches that have remained untouched by men can be appreciated. The plane lands in the small town of Camocim.

Camocim is a colonial style city, surrounded by mangrove swamps and vast beaches, standing just where river and sea meet. On the other side of the river, adventure starts on 4x4 vehicles following the coast, along the beach. Transfer in, which is actually an ecological tour to Jericoacoara, can last from 40 minutes to 1 1/2 hour, depending on the tide level. At some point of the journey small rivers flow so the vehicles get on a raft. Latter, at the end of the beach extensions and behind a great white dune Jericoacoara, a real oasis.

The rhythm in Jericoacoara is beyond progress, nobody is in a hurry. Among the optional tours there are: visit the beach of Pedra Furada, about 50 minutes on foot through green fields and dunes, next a local guide on a buggy collects and drives us along further dunes and fresh water lagoons, consisting of rainwater. Arrival in Laguna Azul, of crystal clear waters. Break, time for a drink and swimming. Return to ‘Jeri’ inland. Perfectly beautiful landscapes. Other neighbouring small towns such as Jijoca, Lagoa do Paraiso and Tatajuba are equally attractive.

Rural destination, suitable for travellers in search of calmness and windsurfers. Night life invites to dance forró, typical dancing of the Brazilian Northeast, or go for a walk under the moonlight reflected on the sea. In addition, you can join fishermen on their boats in search of prawns at dawn.
