A short flight, or a two hour drive, from Johannesburg make it an ideal addition to any South African Itinerary. There are four hotels, numerous restaurants, two Gary Player-designed golf courses, a man made lake offering a full range of water-sports, a water park that can generate perfect waves for bodysurfing, a manmade rain forest, casinos and entertainment halls. There is also horse riding, bowls, mini golf, squash, tennis, mountain biking, jogging trails, ten pin bowling and even a cinema.
The four hotels all offer a high standard of accommodation each with their own theme. The most magnificent and arguably one of the most spectacular hotels in the country is the Palace of the Lost City. It is a stunning complex with unbelievable attention to detail and all the rooms and suites are uniquely decorated to reflect the rich fauna and flora of the area with hand carved doors and furnishings. Price wise the Cascades is next on the list only yards from the Lost City's massive entertainment center. The lobby with its lavish use of mirrors, brass and black marble sets the tone for this sophisticated high-rise hotel. Then there is the Sun City Hotel, the original resort property that houses the gambling casinos and banks of slot machines. The main room is decked out like a Tarzan jungle and it would be difficult not to describe this hotel as tacky!
Finally the Cabanas offer small pleasant apartment blocks overlooking the lake and its' proximity to Water-world, a petting Zoo and a playground make it popular with families. Nearby the Pilanesberg National Park offers a chance to see the Big Five in a malaria-free environment. You can do day trips from Sun City or stay overnight in the park and you can drive yourself through the park or join a guided tour in open-air Land Rovers.
