This expedition provides a unique opportunity to travel through a wide range of remarkable landscapes. From alpine meadows and valleys to snow covered glaciers and towering peaks. But what sets this expedition apart is the learning that accompanies your journey through the wilderness.
As the trip progresses we will teach you the skills you need to know to thrive in the backcountry, and ultimately to feel confident planning your own trips in the future; skills that range from route planning to crevasse rescue, to preserving the precious landscape you are living in.
The Campo Hielo Expedition is exploratory in nature. This means your guides have not traveled this route before. Exploratory expeditions have many special challenges. But they also have unmatched potential for the excitement of discovery and the satisfaction of making your own path.
On the lower reaches of a glacier, we'll begin to acquire mountaineering skills. You will have the opportunity to go ice climbing, practise crevasse rescue, and learn the basics of glacier travel.
Ascending to the Campo Hielo Norte, the Northern Patagonian Ice Cap we put to use the skills we've acquired lower down. Each expedition member (you) will have the opportunity to lead the group with the support of your guides. You will become responsible for our travel over snow covered glaciated terrain and any challenges along the way.
As a final challenge, we will, as a group, plan and execute a summit attempt on a peak, giving world and look upon the whole of Patagonia.
Our descent takes us away from the ice and back into the Patagonian rainforest. Our journey concludes with packrafting down a glacial river back to civilization."
