Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Your guide will be waiting to welcome you at Kuusamo airport, from where you will travel to Tolosenvirta cottage in Hossa for dinner.
Day 2: Tolosenvirta – Hossan lomakeskus 17 km
Our tour starts along the well kept ski tracks in Hossa recreational area. The nature in Hossa area is very beautiful. Handsome pine heathland, ridge lines, and lakes and streams everywhere. Hossa is also called "Fisherman's Paradise". Today we eat our lunch at the Hossa Visitor Center, where we'll also see the exhibition that describes the history and today of Hossa area. For those ones who prefer to ski longer distances there are options for longer route. Accommodation in cottages or hotel rooms.
Day 3: Hossan lomakeskus – Kovavaara 25 km
First kilometers are on the wide tracks of Hossa and then we continue along the border guards' skidoo trail. Today we see tiny, but very old trees: we cross many small mires. We see also bigger trees in old forests, and also logging areas. Our guide prepares the lunch for us by the open fire. Accommodation and sauna in a rustic old house on the top of the hill Kovavaara. There are no modern comforts in Kovavaara house but in exchange the history and lifestyle of 1950's are untouched.
Day 4: Kovavaara – Arola 19 km
The third day of our expedition follows the border zone. The close proximity of the Russian border adds something mysterious and exotic to the atmosphere of the area. The yellow border zone marks are our guides for the whole day. You can see to the Russian side from several points during the day. At Arola dinner is served in a traditional log house. Our hostess prepares the dinner out of local ingredients.
Day 5: Arola – Martinselkonen Wilderness Centre 20 km
Today´s route passes through the Martinselkonen nature reserve, skiing over open marsh and through spruce forest following paths of rein deers. We stop for a picnic lunch at one of the wilderness huts operated by Finnish Forest and Park Service. Hot coffee and hot soup is made on an open fire and they are served with sandwiches. Accommodation in Martinselkonen Wilderness Center where we can enjoy a well deserved dinner and steaming hot sauna.
Day 6: Day tour at Martinselkonen 17 km
This morning we don´t need to pack our luggage because we stay another night at the same place. We take a round tour in Martinselkonen nature reserve, crossing little lakes and swamps and everything is covered by white snow. Lunch is enjoyed at Teerilampi hut at the half way of the day. Our expedition is completed after sauna and final dinner.
Day 7: Breakfast and transport to the Kajaani airport.
