Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Thursday.
In Yerevan. Early morning arrival and transfer to the Hotel Ararat 4 *. After breakfast at app. 11 a.m. city-tour: visiting the Urartian castle Erebuni, the first settlement in the region, strolling over the Republic Place and the market. In the afternoon visit of Matenadaran, one of the largest and most ancient manuscript- collection. From the cascade you can enjoy a panorama-view over Yerevan. Dinner in the Hotel Ararat.

Day 3: Friday.
The slopes of Mt Ararat. Excursion through the Ararat-valley to the monastery of Khor Virap („deep hole“) where Gregor the Illuminator was prisoned for more than 10 years, before he baptized the Armenian king. The monastery is located on the Turkish-Armenian border and you can enjoy an unforgettable view on Mt. Ararat. Continuing to Noravank (“new monastery”), which is built in the end of a beautiful gorge and famous for its reliefs. Lunch-picknick and easy hiking inside the gorge (app. 1 hour). On the way back to Yerevan visit of a wine-factory where you can try Armenia’s famous wines.

Day 4: Saturday.
Armenia’s religious center. Visiting Lake Sevan, located on 2000m, until now the first and only National park of Armenia. The monasteries on the peninsula are interesting and from here you can have a overview over the lake and the surrounding mountain-ranges. Strolling along the sea-shore. Continuing to the well-known spa Dilijan and dinner in a private house. Excursion the monastery-complex of Hagarzin, located inside a forest. Back to Yerevan.

Day 5: Sunday.
The Lake Sevan. Visit of the religious center of the Armenian-apostolic church, which is autocephaly. Participation on the Sunday-liturgy in the main cathedral. Visiting the churches of Surb Ripsime and Surb Gajane, both from 7th cent., and of the ruins of Zvartnots. The whole complex in and around Echmiadzin belongs to the UNESCO-Woldheritage. In the afternoon you can visit in Yerevan the Vernissage, the unique artist’s market where you can find plenty of souvenirs. Dinner in a traditional restaurant with folklore.

Day 6: Monday.
At Mt. Aragatz. Visiting the Museum of History, giving a general view on Armenia’s history. Then excursion to the region of Mt Aragatz, Armenia’s highest mountain (4095 m). Lunch in the private house of a ceramic-artist. Sightseeing of the the monastery of Saghmosavank, located on the top of an impressive gorge. Continuing to slopes of Mt Aragatz and the fortress of Amberd. Back to Yerevan 100 km.

Day 7: Tuesday.
UNESCO-Welt heritage in Armenia’s North. Via the Aragatz-plateau excursion through the earthquake region of 1988. In the Debet-gorge, near Alaverdi are the monasteries of Sanahin and Hachpat (10.-12.Jh) located, both of them are expressing the rich medieval culture and are belonging to UNESCO-world heritage. Alaverdi is well-known for its delicious „Chorvats“ (Shashlik), what you can taste for lunch. On the way back visit of a kurdish-yezidian cementary with unique grave-stones.

Day 8: Wednesday.
Hellenistic-pagan temple and a cave-monastery. Excursion to Garni, where you will find a hellenistc temple from the 1st cent, which was reconstructed in the 60s. In the village nearby you will have the opportunity to see how the traditional “Lavash” is made. Continuing to Geghard, one of the most beautiful monasteries in the Caucasus, belonging to the UNESCO-World heritage and famous for its accustics and reliefs. In the afternoon free time. Farewell-Dinner in Yerevan.

Day 9: Thursday
Departure. Early morning airport-transfer and departure with AUA via Vienna.
