Namibia’s only World Heritage site is situated at Twyfelfontein. This site has a prolific amount of petroglyphs (or rock engravings) from the people who occurred in these areas in historical times. Not only do we find rock art at Twyfelfontein, but there is rock art found all over the rocky parts of Namibia. This tour, however, is by no means only about rock art. The mountains and desert landscapes found where these sites are situated, and on the trips between.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Overnight in Windhoek (Namibia’s capital city). We will meet for drinks at sundown for a short tour briefing. Dinner at your guest house. Overnight at one of Windhoek’s best guesthouses.
Day 2: Overnight Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge (Sossusvlei Region, NamibRand Nature Reserve). Breakfast at your guesthouse. We meet right after breakfast. After shopping we depart for Sossusvlei area. Lunch will be at Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge. Afternoon walk to the Bushman’s cave. Dinner at Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge.
Day 3: Overnight Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge (Sossusvlei Region, NamibRand Nature Reserve). Pre-sunrise coffee/tea. Depart for Sossusvlei. Breakfast a picnic at Sossusvlei. Lunch is back at Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge. Afternoon drive on the NamibRand Nature Reserve.
Day 4: Overnight Beach Lodge (Swakopmund). Optional morning activity at Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge. Breakfast at Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge. Lunch at Rostock Ritz. Afternoon at leisure in Swakopmund. Dinner at a restaurant in Swakopmund. Overnight at Beach Lodge.
Day 5: Overnight at Beach Lodge (Swakopmund). Breakfast at Beach Lodge. Day trip to the Spitzkoppe Hills east of Swakopmund. Lunch will be a picnic lunch. We explore the area including bushman it’s bushman history.
Day 6: Overnight at the Brandberg Mountain (we will use one of the lodges in the region). Breakfast at Beach Lodge. Drive to the Brandberg. Explore the area in the afternoon. Dinner at Lodge. Overnight at the lodge of choice.
Day 7: Overnight at Mowani Mountain Camp (Twyfelfontein area). Breakfast at the lodge. Walk to see the White Lady Painting. Lunch will be flexible depending on how much walking we choose to do. Sundowners at Mowani – an unforgettable experience. Dinner at Mowani. Overnight at Mowani.
Day 8: Overnight at Mowani Mountain Camp (Twyfelfontein area). Today we will visit the world heritage site at Twyfelfontein. We will also do a game drive, with the possibility of seeing the ‘Desert Elephants’. All meals at Mowani. Overnight at Mowani.
Day 9: Overnight at Erongo Wilderness Lodge. Breakfast will be at Mowani. Do an optional game drive this morning. Depart for Erongo Wilderness Lodge. Lunch at Erongo Wilderness Lodge. Afternoon game drive or walk. Visit Erongo rock art sites before returning to Windhoek.
Day 10: Overnight Windhoek. Breakfast Erongo Wilderness Lodge. Visit some of the famous rock art sites in the Erongo area. Lunch is flexible depending on the time we spend exploring. Depart for Windhoek. Tour ends when we drop you off at your guest house.
