Along the northeastern coast of Sicily lays the highest active volcano in western Europe outside Iceland. This is where we do our first hike reaching the crater with a certified guide. If you have enough time we can spend an extra day visiting the greek theatre and surfing the boutiques in Taormina or hiking the Alcantara gorges.
There are 7 small islands off the north eastern coast with striking views of the 2 active volcanoes, superb seaside and white villages with blue shuttered houses. Next we stroll around the soft hilled Salina, we climb to the crater in Vulcano island and take hilarious mud baths. Finally we climb the Stromboli Volcano with an agreed guide. We climb at sunset and will be able to awe at the fireworks.
And of course we relax by the sea.
