The rich smell of damp earth fills your lungs as you hike along a path in the Lacondon rainforest in Chiapas, Mexico, a cacophony of monkey screams and birdsong spilling from the trees above. You've been walking for an hour without a trace of civilization in sight and have just stumbled across what looks to be the remains of a city – right there in the middle of the rain forest! Turns out, your guide explains, you've discovered the remnants of Yaxchitlan: a great Mayan metropolis of the past.
Explore lush rainforests, ancient pyramids, local villages and hidden ruins. Boat into Sumidero Canyon to spot crocodiles, monkeys, cormorants and herons. Swim the rich blue waters of Agua Azul Falls and visit San Cristobal de las Casas, a tranquil colonial town nestled inconspicuously in a mountain valley. Meet world-acclaimed artists at work in their studios and toast the end of each incredible day with an ice-cold margarita before dining on sumptuous local cuisine and calling it a night in the comfort of a fine hotel, resort, hacienda or villa.

Nights 2 - 3: Chan Kah Resort Village
Located at the entrance to the ruins of Palenque, the Chan Kah Resort Village is a jungle retreat equipped with peaceful gardens, lagoon swimming pools and comfortable rooms and suites. It's a tropical paradise only 10 minutes from the center of town.
Nights 4 - 7: Hotel San Juan de Dios
A picturesque roadside inn located in an ancient area of San Cristobal de las Casas, Hotel San Juan de Dios was once a grand hacienda dedicated to cultivating and grinding corn. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful gardens and preserves. Rooms are adorned with antique art and chimneys and open into gardens or private courtyards.
