Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival at the airport of Rijeka, meeting with tour guide, departure to hotel Kanajt in Punat, welcome cocktail. In the evening, after we settle in our rooms we will go on the waterfront and throw seine in the sea with local fisherman. When we leave them we will go in our hotel at dinner.

Day 2: After breakfast we will go back on the sea to pick up seines and see what we have caught. The catch will go to our cooker and he will prepare it for dinner. People on the island are having meals on the base of fish and olive oil for centuries, so now it’s time to meet the liquid gold of Mediterranean. We will visit olive trees, see how is oil made today, and how it was made one upon a time when olives were grinded with heavy stone wheels.

Day 3: Today we will visit island of Kosljun and its francisian monastery with rich ethnological, sacral and numismatic collections. Francisians who live in this peaceful oases for over 550 years will lead us through monastery. As our stay is closing to the end we will leave to Gorski Kotar. In little town named Lokve we will get acquainted with tradition of hunting frogs, and visit the unique frog museum. We will continue our way to Delnice and settle in hotel.

Day 4: This day we will completely dedicate to traditions of the area Gorski Kotar. We will visit village houses where people live like they used to many years ago, where you still can find water mill, where you still can bake your own bread instead buying it in the store. We will learn how to make batten, today like hundreds years ago. We will stay with our host on real homely lunch made of ingredients as long gathered from garden. We will visit a family which produces natural honey and walk a bit through beautiful centuries old forest.

Day 5: After breakfast we will continue our way to Zagreb, capital city of Croatia. We will see the old town center, walk through the oldest market place, where saleswoman sells their products, taste cheese and sour cream, drink a coffee at Cvijetni trg and finish our walk in Ethnologic museum. We will leave the city and settle in real village of Zagorje which was adopted in hotel and relax with typical dinner in Zagorje.

Day 6: Today we will visit Etno village in Kumrovec, the only museum on open area in Croatia. We will attend on presentation of life in village in 19. Century, see how buckram was made and many other interesting things. After that we will look around romantic castle Trakoš and center for maintaining tradition of making worldly known lace of Lepoglava. We will try to do some lace and then leave to our village-hotel.

Day 7: Our journey continues along biggest Croatian river Sava, which we won’t cross over on bridge but with an old ferry. Before that we plan to visit workshop of traditional wearing and meet people which with love make that unique examples of our national treasure for hours and hours. When we cross Sava over we will get in park of nature named Lonjsko polje. We will walk through pasture on the edge of swamp, where horses, cows and pigs freely graze, search for some rare birds whose are many in this reservation and go to the village to find storks. Village Cigoc is proclaimed European village of storks because nowhere in Europe you can’t find them so many in one place like here. Old village architecture is second interesting thing. Storks make their nests on 200 years old oak houses- cardak. In one of these houses lives a family who returned them selves towards nature and traditional way of living. We will taste domestic food, and so strengthen go towards Baranja. There we will settle in village household and take a deserved rest in the peace of village of Baranja.

Day 8: Our host will acquaint us with life in village, ride us with vehicle, show us how people use to live there, how they conserved food for winter, when they hadn’t fridge, and after we see all that, we will taste it… in the afternoon we will visit vine road of Baranja, look around specific wine cellars, oblong, buried in the ground, taste some fragrant vines. As logic continue, day will be finished at dinner with tamburitza players cheer late in the night.

Day 9: After breakfast we will visit park of nature Kopacki rit, one of the biggest swamp areas in the Europe. Big number of birds make their nests there and habits a big colony of great cormorant. Birds are there because of food and that is why we will, after sightseeing park, go fishing with local fisherman. From caught fish we will make fish paprika stew and carp in fork. When we take a rest in our rooms we will look folk performance, one more time enjoy with tamburitza players and easy dinner.

Day 10: Today is the last day of our journey and after we salute to our dear hosts, we will leave Baranja and slavonian plain, and say hello on airport in Zagreb.
