Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Home / Dakar. Leave your hometown today for Dakar, Senegal.

Day 2: Dakar. Arrive in Dakar. Welcome at the airport, and transfer to Hotel Le Savana Dakar. Upon arrival at the hotel, you will be served with welcome drink. Dinner at the hotel. (D)

Day 3: Dakar. Start a tour of Dakar with its main markets. Visit Kermel Market, Sandaga Market, stop at the President’s Palace and admire its red Spahi guards, stop at the Parliament House, the Cathedral and the Great Mosque. Visit the University going through the residential district of Fann showing the new Senegalese architecture style. Stop at the Millennium Door, one of the newest monuments of Dakar and go through the picturesque district of Medina. In the afternoon, take a boat ride to Goree Island where you will arrive after 20 minutes. Visit the House of Slaves where the curator will deliver a lecture on “300 years of Slave Trading in West Africa.” Visit the ethnographic museum, the Fort and the Memorial of Goree. Stop at the Governor’s Palace and take some time for shopping at the little market of Goree. Return to your hotel. In the evening, your dinner is arranged at a well-known local restaurant in Dakar. Overnight at Hotel Le Savana. (B, D)

Day 4: Dakar / Saint Louis. Leave Dakar for Saint Louis. On the way, you will visit Pink Lake Retba, meet the “Salt Lake harvesters” drawing salt from the lake, visit the Fulani village on the north bank of the lake. Proceed to Saint Louis, visiting some traditional Wolof villages. Arrive in Saint Louis towards the end of the day. Welcome dinner and overnight at Hotel La Pointe Sud in Saint Louis. (B, D)

Day 5: Saint Louis. Leave the hotel for a tour of Saint Louis – former capital of Senegal and all French West African settlements. You will admire the charming beauty of this colonial styled city. The historic center of Saint Louis will be visited in horse-drawn carriage. Stop at the Governor’s Palace, visit the fishermen district of Guet Ndar, the district of Ndar Toute with its market, the handicraft village. At noon, proceed by motor canoe to “Langue de Barbarie” Bird Sanctuary, one of the most important ornithological sites of the world. You will admire this beautiful nature reserve between the Atlantic Ocean and the Senegal River. Dinner and overnight at Hotel La Pointe Sud. (B, D)

Day 6: Saint Louis / Banjul. Early morning, leave Saint Louis for Banjul. On the way, you will visit some weekly village markets gathering thousands of villagers, visit villages of various ethnic groups, visit Kaolack and its market famous for its medicinal herbs and its African fabrics. This afternoon, proceed to Barra and on to Banjul. Upon arrival in Banjul, check in to your hotel. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Atlantic. (B, D)

Day 7: Banjul. On board a yacht you travel to Albreda and Juffure passing Dog Island. Stop at James Island where you visit the remains of the slave stores and the governor’s house, before continuing to Albreda, a major groundnut trading place. A 15-minute walk brings you to Juffure the ancestral village of Alex Haley, the author of the best-seller “Roots”, and the home of “Kunta Kinteh’s family.” On your way lunch and drinks will be served on board. Return to Banjul in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Atlantic. (B, L, D)

Day 8: Banjul. This morning, visit Abuko Nature Reserve which is a jungle in the middle of the savannah. A 2 hours walk through this rain forest is rewarding experience. The restaurant Amber’s Nest will host you for lunch. Afternoon is free for relaxation and personal activities. (B, L, D)

Day 9: Banjul. Banjul city tour this morning will feature the National Museum with its numerous artifacts from all the Gambian regions, visit the central market and the Serrekunda Market. Visit the Musu Keba’s tye-dye factories. Visit the different districts of Banjul. Afternoon is free. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Atlantic. (B, D)

Day 10: Banjul / Dakar / Home. Buffet breakfast at your hotel. Depart for Dakar passing by Barra, Sokone and Foundiougne. Visit Joal and Fadiouth, typical villages renowned for its shell cemetery, its granaries on piles. Visit of Mbour with its fish dryeries and proceed to Dakar passing by the baobab forest of Sindia. Arrive in Dakar in the evening. Farewell dinner at the seaside restaurant “La Pointe des Almadies” and transfer to the airport for departure. (B, D)

Day 11: Home. With overnight flight, arrive home this morning.
