It is difficult to express the beauty of the valley and of the mountains of Ceillac with a few words. I will just quote a revealing anecdote. In Spring 2004, going up to Gran Paradiso (Italy) in ski touring with a group of English skiers, I was speaking of the pleasures of Ski-touring with Jonathan, one of the participants. Jonathan spoke to me about his trekking with his children, mainly the one he had made in Queyras. He confided to me he saw there the most beautiful place he had ever seen in the world: the Lake "Miroir", just above Ceillac.
* Access to Ceillac from Geneva Airport: We propose to the five first participants registering to this program a free round trip shuttle from Geneva Airport to Ceillac, in the guide mono space car (3 hours and 15 minutes drive). Shuttle starts at 7.40 am in Geneva airport, on Sunday. On the last day of the program (Saturday), we will leave you at Geneva airport by 4 pm.
* Accommodation: two stars hotel, twin beds, private washbasin (hot shower and toilets in the corridor). On request, rooms with private bathroom and toilet, and single rooms (please contact us for booking).
*Group: 8 to 12 participants, with a French Mountain Guide speaking fluently English with a near-native comprehension.
*All the technical equipment for rock-climbing ( rock-climbing harness, helmet, and climbing shoes ) and for Via Ferrata ( harness, shock absorber, self-locking karabiners, helmet) is freely provided by your Guide.
*10 % discount for children between 10 and 17 years old. The price does not include 45 euro + taxi for participants wishing to make a rafting experience.
* The valley of Ceillac is one of the best spots for hiking in the Alps, and for a Summer Multi-activities, thanks to the following characteristics :
- Ceillac is located at 175 miles from Geneva airport. The transfer in the guide mono space car, mostly on motorways, lasts 3 hours and 15 minutes.
- With 300 days of nice weather per year, Ceillac offers the best guarantees for the success of this program.
- Ceillac inhabitants give you a warm welcome, in a typical old French mountain village of 300 inhabitants, in the heart of Queyras Regional Park.
- Queyras Regional Park, the most beautiful of French Alps, is well-known for its sunny weather. In the heart of the Park, the small village of Ceillac, altitude 5,380 feet, dominated by Font Sancte peak, 11,105 feet, offers many day hikes leading to mountain pastures, lakes (Sainte Anne, Miroir), passes, peaks.
- Ceillac offers a rock-climbing school adapted to beginners, and a very nice Via Ferrata. Rafting can be made on the Guil river, at 30 minutes from Ceillac by taxi.
- Accommodation will take place in the two stars hôtel "Les Veyres" whose chef is one of our best friends, Yannick Fournier, graduated from the hotel school of Thonon-Les-Bains.
* Family Holidays: as we will back to the hotel each day by the beginning of the afternoon, or in the middle of the afternoon, you may come to Ceillac with your wife and your children, even if they do not attend the program (they will then get discount prices by our two stars hotel). Ceillac proposes easy mountain bike tours, tennis courts, hiking with donkeys, paragliding, and high-speed Internet connection.
* Level:
- Your fitness : you are in good condition (you practice sports twice a week).
- You are used to hiking. You are a beginner in rock-climbing and in Via Ferrata ascents.
- Average difference in height : 2,330 feet a day.
- Pace : ascent of about 1,000 feet per hour.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Transfer from Geneva airport to Ceillac. Installation in our hotel. In the afternoon, hiking to Lake Miroir (7,264 feet asl).
Day 2: Day hike to Lake Sainte Anne (7,923 feet) and Girardin pass (8,855 feet). Option: ascent to the old Girardin military post (9,403 feet).
Day 3: In the morning, discovering rock-climbing on La Vispe rocks. In the afternoon, for half of the group, Ceillac Via Ferrata (for the other half of the group, rest at the hotel or rafting).
Day 4: Morning hike to Fromage pass (7,549 feet). In the afternoon, for half of the group, Ceillac Via Ferrata (for the other half of the group, rest at the hotel or rafting).
Day 5: Day hike in Bois Noir valley: Chalmettes mountain pasture (6,365 feet), Estronques pass (8,697 feet), Tête de Jacquette peak (9,045 feet).
Day 6: Day hike to Andrevez sheepfold (7,408 feet) and Mourière view point (7,625 feet).
Day 7: Before dawn, we will leave the hotel to head up to Bramousse pass (7,385 feet), to see the sun rising on Queyras. Way down to the hotel for breakfast. By midday, transfer to Geneva airport, where we will arrive around 4 pm.
