Mt. Fansipan is only 9 km from Sapa town but it takes at least three days to get to the peak and back. The top is accessible year-round to anyone, providing you are in good shape. As there are no mountain huts on the way, we will be camping. Our porters carry the equipment and food. No ropes or technical climbing skills are needed, just endurance and plenty of energy. The terrain is rugged, wet and often cold.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Hanoi – Lao Cai by overnight train
Meet our guide at Tran Quy Cap train station; we will be traveling in a first class soft sleeper cabin up to Lao Cai. Train leaves Hanoi at 22:00 and arrive at Lao Cai at 7 am.
Day 2: Sapa - First Peak
Meet our driver at Lao Cai Railway Station; we transfer to hotel for a show, breakfast and morning coffee. At 10.00 we embark on the first part of the ascent. We begin with a trek through terraced rice paddies and some of the villages of the H'mong minority people. Once we reach an elevation of 1,700 m we will stop for lunch and an energy boost before climbing up to the first peak at an elevation of 2,300. Here we will set up camp for the night.
Day 3: Trek to second base camp
After our first night on the mountain we set out for the seven-hour trek to our second camp. As we continue on we will pass through primary forest containing giant, centuries old pine trees and expanses of yellow bamboo. Our continuing trek will take us to an altitude of 2,900m, where we will stop for lunch. After lunch we trek downhill to an elevation of 2,700m, where we set up camp for the second night in view of the summit.
Day 4: The Summit
Following breakfast this morning, we climb to the roof of Vietnam: Fansipan Peak. The final climb will only take around three hours. Once at the summit we will spend some time soaking up the best panorama in Vietnam. While relaxing we will have lunch before descending back to our second camp where we left our equipment. Here we will spend our third night on the mountain.
Day 5: Second Camp – Sapa- Train back to Hanoi
Today it’s downhill just about all the way. Following breakfast we begin our descent and reach Sapa by around lunchtime. Half day use room at hotel in Sapa for show and refresh. The afternoon will then be free to explore the charms of Sapa town and take over night train back to Hanoi. Train departs at 21:15 and arrives in Hanoi at 5 am.
Day 6: Arrival Hanoi
We arrive at Hanoi Railway Station at 5 am. Our guide will arrange a transfer to your hotel. Thank you for using our services.
