Established in 1936 by legendary tiger hunter Jim Corbett (1875-1955) made famous by his book "The Man-Eaters of Kumaon". It is one of India’s finest National Parks, rich in bio-diversity and supports a large variety of habitats. Over 600 species of deer & birds, sloth bears, crocodiles, elephants, leopards and of course tigers, roam freely throughout the park.
We offer an authentic jungle experience at Camp Forktail Creek. Situated near the village of Bhakrakot, the camp is surrounded by mixed deciduous forests, in which wildlife and bird-life are abundant. Hikes in these forests prove very rewarding for bird-watchers, especially when coupled with the pleasure of sighting animals whilst on foot.
Excursions available include elephant rides, jeep safari, angling for the mighty Mahseer on the Ramganga River, overnight or multi-day trips to Dhikala forest rest house within the National Park, and multi-day elephant safaris.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in Delhi - Overnight train to Ramnagar
Arrive in Delhi airport. Transfer from the airport to the hotel. Spend the afternoon and evening relaxing in your hotel room or taking in the sights of Delhi. Evening transfer to the train station for the overnight sleeper train to Ramnagar at 22.40. We travel by A/C sleeper train, the best and most comfortable way to travel overland in India.
Day 2: Ramnagar to Camp Forktail Creek
Arrive into Ramnagar at 05.00am and drive for half an hour to reach Camp Forktail Creek for breakfast. Spend the morning relaxing, reading and explore the camp. After a sumptuous lunch we will then take you on an escorted nature and bird walk into the Sal forests surrounding camp. It is an excellent opportunity to walk in the cool of the forest, to be so close to nature and to appreciate the varied plants, insects, birds, mammals and reptiles that inhabit this part of India. We head back to camp by sundown for a leisurely dinner and chat over the campfire.
Day 3: Full day game drive into the Bijrani range
Depart for a full day game drive / elephant ride (subject to availability) in the early morning to the Bijrani mountain range to observe the wildlife of the area. Breakfast and lunch will be served at the Bijrani Forest Rest House, specially made by our head chef. After a full, action-packed day in the forest, we head back to camp by sundown, just in time for a hot cup of steaming Indian chai (tea). Dinner and campfire
Day 4: Full day game drive, followed by return train to Delhi
Full day game drive into the Bijrani zone of the National Park. Return to Camp by sundown. Wash and change, have an early dinner and depart for Ramnagar Railway Station for the overnight train back to Delhi at 21.40.
