Transylvania is not only the most famous part of Romania thanks to the legend of Count Dracula, but it is also the most romantic and inspiring of all country's provinces. Settled over a plateau area (305-488 m high) in the north-west of Romania, it is among the most advanced regions of the country. We cycle along well known medieval towns dating from the 14th century as Brasov, Sighisoara and Sibiu. High-roofed wooden churches, citadels, legendary castles, troubled history, splendid mountain scenery and alpine peaks, scattered villages …these are just a few of the entire region's assets! And since no visit to Transylvania would be complete without visiting the castle of the literary Count Dracula, the dramatic Bran Castle is also one of the stops there.

Departure dates for 2010: 3 July; 14 August

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival at Bucharest Airport and transfer to Sibiu for overnight.

Day 2: Free time for sightseeing in Sibiu and short aclimatisation cycling trip around Cisnadie. Overnight in Sibiu. (cycling distance: 25 km)

Day 3: You start biking from Sibiu through several villages with picturesque fortified churches on mainly flat terrain right to the beginning of Medias town. Overnight in Medias. (cycling distance: 72 km)

Day 4: The cycling today is traced again to pass along few hidden villages, typical for this part of the country. Fortified churches and medieval fortresses will be accompanying the group throughout the whole day. We stay overnight in Sighisoara. (cycling distance: 52 km)

Day 5: Another day of riding among scattered villages and low hills is expecting us. We start from Sighisoara to the town of Fagaras, where we stay overnight. (cycling distance: 64 km)

Day 6: From Fagaras a short transfer to Sercaia takes you to the starting point for today. The route passes along small villages with nice churches and lead us to Bran Castle, for a tour among the legendary walls of the Dracula's castle. Overnight in Brasov. (cycling distance: 47 km)

Day 7: In the morning the bus takes you to Sacele. The route passes through beech and coniferous woods and picturesque mountains up to an altitude of 1200m. A pleasent descent and visit of Cheia and Suzana Monasteries awaits you. The cycling ends in the centre of Valea Popi settlement. Transfer to Bucharest for overnight. (cycling distance: 40 km).

Day 8: Transfer to the airport for departure.

Notes:
- Please consider airport arrival not later then 14:00 on the starting day of the tour or overnight in Bucharest on the previous day (our representatives will pick you up from your hotel for the transfer to Sibiu).
- Bikes: You can choose (depending on the availability) from 2 types of bikes: 1 hardtail performance mountain bike “RAM” with road tires, 24 gears and 80mm front suspension fork and 2. quality road touring bike “DRAG” with 21 gears, 28 inch rims and Shimano components.
- Road Conditions: The density of the road network in Romania is low and some of the cycling stages pass along main roads, where the traffic is somewhat heavier, with cars passing by and very seldom - buses or trucks. However the country roads are quite peaceful, sometimes without any cars. We use mostly two-way roads (one band per direction) with an asphalt covering.
- Tour Info: All bikers receive a detailed roadbook and map. The guide with the supporting vehicle and the luggage inside checks several times a day if everything is OK with the group, waiting by crossroads, accompanying them for breakfast, lunch and dinner and giving them talks by the most interesting sites en-route. The guide is also responsible for the technical support of the bikes. Bikers can always skip some harder stages using the supporting vehicle.
- Recommended Equipment: We strongly recommend you wearing a helmet during the cycling. You can bring your own helmet or rent one from us. Cycling gloves are also advisable.
- Accommodation and food: Family run pensions and hotels with en-suite facilities, 7 days on halfboard (breakfast and dinner included).

We have a unique proposal, which gives you the opportunity to stay on a sea holiday for extra week after your active tour at an incredibly low price in Sozopol, Nessebar, Sunny Beach, Lozenets, St. Vlas, Golden Sands etc. and all this with arranged transportation right after your tour and before your departure flight.
