Of all the means of expression, photography is the only one that fixes forever the precise and transitory instant. We photographers deal in things that are continually vanishing, and when they have vanished, there is no contrivance on earth that can make them come back again. We cannot develop a print from memory. Photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson: Is the decisive moment just the moment when the shutter is released, or can it be applied to an ancient land or to those who lived here for many thousands of years?
These questions will be the centerpiece of Moshe Rosenzveig's photographic exploration into the heart and center of Australia. Over the week, we shall select the most powerful visual stories and images from a place that has a history encapsulating the horror, beauty and hope of the Australian story. From Alice Springs we will access the magnificent MacDonnell Ranges with its hidden gorges, spectacular ridges and ancient waterholes. We shall visit Aboriginal Communities and listen to their stories.
We will explore the images of European culture rising uncomfortably from an ancient land. Ultimately, you might capture either the answer or the question in the "Decisive Moment". Moshe Rosenzveig is an award winning television producer/director, photojournalist, commercial photographer and educator whose career in the visual arts and media spans 25 years. His photographic work was published in major local and international magazines, featured on CD and book covers and exhibited in various shows including the Sydney Festival and the Museum of Sydney.
