Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival - Addis Ababa. Rest - Transfer to accommodation. In the afternoon take a tour of the city. We can suggest an evening program.
Day 2: Departure from Addis Ababa to Bale Mountains National Park; 425 kilometres from Addis Ababa. See dramatic Alpine style flora. Experience sharp contrasts of scenery from juniper forests to moors and alpine meadows. Expect high altitudes, cold nights. Bring warm clothes and a waterproof overcoat. Sun protection is highly advised. We stay overnight at the Dinsho Lodge. Sauna is available and perhaps it is better than the bathrooms.
Day 3: Full day Bale. We can walk through the park or take the land cruiser according to your wishes. The cook will prepare on site meals. We will try to observe wildlife in the park. It is possible to see Menelik's bushbuck, duiker, mountain nyala, warthog, monkeys and baboons and Abyssinian red jackal. Parts of the park are thickly forested making wildlife views erratic. We spend overnight at Wabe Shebele Goba Hotel. This is more decent accommodation and a nice contrast to the previous night.
Day 4: Drive from Goba to Lake Awasa. It abounds in bird life. Good sunsets across the Rift Valley. Lakeside walk. Awasa town has a provincial, but interesting nightlife for the first time visitor and the atmosphere is quite relaxed for walking around. Tabor Hill gives a good panorama of the town. Bring mosquito spray and repellents. Restaurants are good for outside Addis Ababa. We watch the world pass by at Pina Restaurant. Stay overnight at Wabe Shebele Hotel or comfortable guest house.
Day 5: Morning departure for Wendo Gunet Forest and hot water springs. We continue to Rift Valley lakes stopping to see flamingos and pelicans. Arriving at Lake Langano we take a boat trip. Next have lunch at the Bishangari Eco Tourist Resort. In the afternoon we make our way back to Addis Ababa. There is a garden barbecue available in the evening.
Day 6: Rest and Recreation in Addis Ababa. You can go site seeing, shopping or museums around the city. You can take the program at your own pace. Otherwise, if you want to be more active we can spend the day in the Menegesha Forest noted for its four hundred year old trees. The forest is reputed to be one of the oldest examples of early conservation attempts. We eat dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant with Ethiopian music and dancing in the evening. Meet some Ethiopians.
Day 7: You have an Internal Flight departure from Addis Ababa to Gonder*. View the castles of Gonder. See the Bathing House and Baths of the Ethiopian Kings. View churches if interested. Sleeping at Goha Hotel.
Day 8: In the morning drive from Gonder to Bahir Dar. See Blue Nile Falls in the afternoon. The Blue Nile Falls is still very spectacular. However, some tourists and local guides remark the hydroelectric dam has spoilt the place. Evening in Bahir Dar town. We stay overnight at Lake Tana Hotel. Good sunsets.
Day 9: We take a short tour of the Lake Tana islands churches. The program can be flexible to suit your interests. In the afternoon transfer to the airport for flight back to Addis Ababa.
Day 10: International Departure from Addis Ababa.
Notes:
* Expect Delays on internal flights to and from Addis Ababa. Bring reading materials and CD player in case. If you have more vacation time, we can do the journey all by road.
